Rolls Royce gets an opportunity to leverage Microsoft Azure IoT Suite and Cortana Intelligence Suite to further improve its aircraft services.

Microsoft Corp. and Rolls-Royce have announced a new partnership in order to integrate Microsoft Azure IoT Suite and Cortana Intelligence Suite into Rolls-Royce service solutions. The integration will allow a more efficient support of intelligent engines of the current and next generation.

Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, located in London, is a multinational giant that is involved in design, manufacture and distribution of power systems for aviation and other industries. Each month its engines power more than 50,000 flights around the world.  Rolls-Royce focuses on constant improvement of aircraft services – enhancement of efficiency and availability and reduction of maintenance costs for customers.

Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare® service is among the best service solutions in the industry so far as it enables customers’ engines generating maximum value for them. TotalCare package includes three basic elements: operational support, repair and overhaul, and information management. Thus, customers get an engine and replacement service for a fixed sum per flying hour. Rolls-Royce has developed built-in technology for its jet parts that can detect problems and automatically fix them or alert a technician. Sensors on planes are sending data to engineers around the world, thus allowing in-time control. As a result, customers get prompt, high-quality, and, of course, profitable service package.

With the current collaboration, Rolls-Royce will be able to use Azure IoT Suite to collect and process data from disparate, geographically distributed sources while Cortana Intelligence Suite will help to uncover data insights. Azure Stream Analytics and Microsoft Power BI dashboards will enable airlines to improve their operational performance and increase fuel efficiency.

Microsoft has recently partnered with R3 consortium as well. This collaboration is expected to help move blockchain technology from hype to reality for the financial services industry. “Together, we will help R3’s over 40 member banks develop, test and deploy blockchain technologies to modernize decades-old processes and streamline operations, potentially saving billions of dollars from back-office operations.”

Microsoft offered R3 consortium its cloud platform, Microsoft Azure, and access to its expanding network of Blockchain-as-a-Service solution providers currently numbering in more than 45 partners. The cooperation with Microsoft provides R3’s members with intelligent technology for faster experimentation, technical agility and accelerated learning.
