Windows 10 Will Control Internet of Things Devices Using AllJoyn from Day One

Microsoft has developed an open source protocol AllJoyn for IoT devices that will be supported by Windows 10.
Multinational technology company Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will support the open source framework AllJoyn that provides interoperability between various IoT devices.
Created by the AllSeen Alliance, AllJoyn is a common language that allows devices to communicate with each other. The protocol will work on all the main platforms, such as Windows, Linux, Android and iOS.
The AllSeen Alliance involves more than 150 tech companies from all around the world, such as Panasonic, Qualcomm, LG Electronics, HTC, Silicon Image and others. Notably, Microsoft is the only operating system developer in the consortium. Such companies as Google and Apple have created their own frameworks for the IoT.
The support of the AllJoyn protocol by Windows 10 devices means it will be much easier to create a smart home. All you need is to plug your new AllJoyn-enabled device and it is immediately connected to any Windows 10 device you have. The process doesn’t require any configuration settings or manuals.
“AllJoyn integration could be huge not just for Windows users, but for the millions of people who can’t wrap their heads around setting up smart home products. In essence, any Windows 10 device — smartphones, tablets, or PCs — could become a smart home controller… AllJoyn has no hardware at the heart of it, and as soon as Windows 10 becomes available, the turnkey solution would go from having 10 million devices included to more than a billion,” said John Patrick Pullen of Time.
He added that unlike Apple’s HomeKit, Windows 10 doesn’t require producers to have a special chip in their product.
There is already a number of devices that support the framework and more are expected to be released.
The IoT devices will enable companies to obtain such information as how long the lights have been turned on or how often do you use the oven. By gaining an access to this data, businesses will be able to boost revenues, save costs and improve advertising.
By incorporating AllJoyn in Windows 10, Microsoft has positioned itself as one of the leading players in the industry.
Windows 10 will become available on July 29, 2015. For those running Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, the software will be free during one year. For the owners of earlier versions, Windows 10 will cost $119, whilst Windows 10 Pro will be available for $199.
