Meet Amazon Go, the World’s First Grocery Store That Features No Checkout Line

Amazon will allow customers choosing the products they want and leaving the shop without lines or registers.
Pleasant news comes from Amazon, one of the leading Internet-based retailers in the world. The company has unveiled an option that will enable customers to enter the store using an accompanied app, grab the items they need, and walk out without stopping at a register. Called Amazon Go, the technology is called “the world’s most advanced shopping technology.”
Amazon team explains how they struck upon the idea of Amazon Go: “Four years ago we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no lines and no checkout? Could we push the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning to create a store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go and Just Walk Out Shopping.
Developers unveil that Amazon Go leverages the most advanced machine learning, computer vision, and artificial intelligence technology. You can pick up anything off store shelves and it will be automatically added to a virtual cart. To remove the item from your cart, you just put it back on the shelf.
Here are necessary steps to start using Amazon Go. Having arrived at the Amazon Go store (as for now, Amazon has announced one location in Seattle), you should open the corresponding app and scan your phone on the way in. You don’t need your phone anymore and can choose items you want. When your shopping is over, you just walk out of the store. No more lines or registers. Amazon Go will add everything you have selected in your virtual cart, charge your Amazon account, and send you a receipt to the app.
“Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning,” Amazon said in an FAQ page.
The launch of Amazon Go is expected at the beginning of 2017 in Seattle. Amazon promises a 1,800 square-foot store offering prepared breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack items plus a selection of “grocery essentials” and meal kits.
