The support for the Bitcoin currency format is now at the developmental stage.

Responding to the growing popularity of bitcoin, Microsoft Excel adds native support for the digital currency. The announcement is a part of the software suite’s roadmap. Microsoft unveils the Office 365 roadmap that contains all the updates in the Office 365 suite made by Microsoft’s team of developers. The marks show at what stage the integration of particular features into the Office software suite is. The support for the Bitcoin currency format is currently marked under “In development.”

Microsoft Excel is the most popular spreadsheet program used by millions of people. Its software suite consists of multiple programs, which altogether makes for one of the most indispensable office software programs in the world.

CCN has asked Microsoft how the integration of bitcoin currency support would impact the Excel functionality. Apparently, soon users will be able to use Excel to analyze, allocate and study bitcoin data through native bitcoin formatting support. This may include native recognition of bitcoin with BTC as well as allowing Bitcoin values up to 8 decimal spaces, instead of the standard 2 for fiat currencies.

Several days ago Microsoft was in focus of news agencies as it added programming language, Solidity, into Visual Studio, thus considerably facilitating building stuff with Ethereum for millions of developers. Ethereum is a public blockchain platform with smart contract functionality. It provides a decentralized virtual machine that can execute peer-to-peer contracts using a crypto asset called Ether (unofficial code ETH).

The integration was officially announced by co-founders of the company, Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Lubin, at //Build in San Francisco that is taking place from March 29th till April 2nd.

Vitalik Buterin said: “Making it easier for developers to build applications on top of Ethereum through developer tools has always been one of our primary interests and focuses, and the integration of Solidity in Visual Studio will help bring Ethereum to a very large developer community. I am looking forward to seeing the results that this collaboration will bring.”

Solidity is a javascript-like programming language intended for creation of smart contract programs running on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Developers can leverage Solidity to develop applications that implement self-enforcing business logic embodied in smart contracts, leaving a non-repudiable and authoritative record of transactions.

The integration of Solidity in Visual Studio, a rich and integrated development environment for creating applications for Windows, Android, and iOS, means adding the power of decentralised applications to the most powerful development platform so far. And this creates prerequisites for a new computing paradigm.
