The Dogecar, a dogecoin and reddit-sponsored NASCAR car, placed 20th of 43 in Aaron’s 499, a NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, May 4th.
The Dogecoin Community raised over $50,000 in order to sponsor a NASCAR driver, Josh Wise, to race at the Talladega SuperSpeedway on May 4th.
Talladega race has NASCAR’s largest oval at 2.66 miles.The car that he was driving had a Dogecoin logo and the words “Dogecoin: Digital Currency” on the side.
Yesterday, the Dogecar, a dogecoin and reddit-sponsored NASCAR car, took 20th place out of 43 in Aaron’s 499, a NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega .
The race was watched by dogecoin community that sponsored the car’s logos and also Wise’s entry to the race. However while watching they also found time to update live commentaries to the /r/dogeoin.
Dogcoin is only a 6 months old alternative cryptocurrency that is based on a shiba inu, but thanks to the community around it the dogecoin appeared in so many places. It would be starnge if you haven’t at least heard something about dogecoin or seen the shiba’s face.
Alexis Ohanian a cofounder of reddit, as well as some devoted dogecoin fans and tech journalists went to Alabama to see the Dogecar in action.
The show was definitely worth seeing. Before the race started the Nascar people talked to God first as there are actually lots of people who are dyin gin a NASCAR racings.
Josh Wise driving a dogecar started in 36th position, right after Greg Biffle. Biffle dominated the race day, and led 58 of the race’s 188 massive laps. However, in the end Biffle would finish second.
During the race the dogecar, quickly labeled ‘underdoge’ as Wise passed Danica Patrick’s car. Wise did the ranks on the outside of the track while skillfully avoiding a number of accidents. Dogacar got up to 7th place from 14th.
At one point one of the camera’s shows a shiba inu’s face, staring down at the driver behind with that trollish expression, while melting rubber at a speed of 200 miles per hour.
After watching the phenomena of the dogecar’s paint job come to life, viewers hypothesized that the shiba inu’s face might have destructed drivers during the race, e.g. such animal-loving driver like Dale Earnhardt.
Moreover, the shiba’s face brought new viewers to NASCAR, got one of NASCAR’s announcers to Google ‘dogecoin,’ and showed a number of curious NASCAR viewers into what is the most fun digital currency community around.
