New Delhi G20 Leaders Declaration has included a total of 83 paras devoted to concerns that G20 aims to address and proposed actions that have to be taken to solve burning issues. All of the paras received a 100% consensus across all countries.
On Saturday, the 18th G20 Summit 2023 took place in New Delhi, the subjects discussed included artificial intelligence (AI) and its governance worldwide. The G20 leaders agreed on the need to create a proper regulatory framework to oversee AI development and integration. Besides, they came up with the G20 Declaration that introduced the ‘G20 Framework for Systems of Digital Public Infrastructure’. The latter calls for a secure, reliable, and inclusive digital public infrastructure (DPI) for service delivery and innovation.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated:
“Today, we are witnessing an unprecedented scale and speed in new-generation technologies. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one such example in front of us. In 2019, we (the G20) adopted the ‘Principles on AI’. Today, we need to take one step further.”
“I propose that we establish a framework for Responsible Human-Centric AI governance. India will also give its suggestions in this regard. It will be our endeavour that all countries get the benefits of AI in areas like socio-economic development, global workforce and research and development,” added he.
The main idea behind the ‘G20 Framework for Systems of Digital Public Infrastructure’ is building a safe and resilient infrastructure that will operate based on the principles of transparency, fairness, appropriate human oversight, and ethics.
The declaration reads:
“Digital public infrastructure (DPI), as an evolving concept and as a set of shared digital systems, built and leveraged by both the public and private sectors, based on secure and resilient infrastructure, and can be built on open standards and specifications, as well as opensource software can enable the delivery of services at societal-scale.”

G20 Summit 2023: Other Highlights
Among other issues brought to the G20 Summit 2023 discussion was the war in Ukraine. G20 adopted a consensus declaration that avoided condemning Russia for the war in Ukraine. However, the Summit called on all states to act in a manner consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN charter in its entirety and refrain from threats or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. The threat of the use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible.
Further, the Summit covered sustainable and balanced growth, with the aim of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Climate change was addressed as well. G20 leaders called for accelerating efforts to phasedown unabated coal power and tripling renewable energy capacity globally.
Speaking on the economic development and financial markets, the G20 leaders revealed their aim of promoting equitable growth and enhancing macroeconomic and financial stability. In October, G20 financial minister will discuss cryptocurrencies and their impact on the global economy.
