Leading Software Manufacturer SAP is Launching Blockchain-as-a-Service Platform

The new platform aims at making blockchain actionable for enterprise customers by integrating the technology into SAP portfolio. It will provide support for Hyperledger Fabric and MultiChain.

Recently, the company announced plans to collaborate with Accenture, Capgemini and Deloitte to accelerate customer adoption of SAP S/4HANA Cloud in the process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing and service industries.SAP, the market leader in enterprise application software, announced launching a SAP Cloud Platform Blockchain, a service effort that aims to integrate its various products with blockchain capabilities.

SAP is the world’s third largest independent software manufacturer, based on market capitalization. Being at the center of today’s business and technology revolution, SAP helps streamline processes, giving the ability to use real-time data to predict customer trends across the entire business. Operating in 180 countries, SAP has more than 388,000 customers.

SAP Cloud Platform Blockchain is a new blockchain enabling enterprises to easily build and extend business solutions with blockchain technologies. The new cloud platform is aimed at helping corporates develop blockchain-based applications. It will utilize SAP HANA Data Management Suite and be built on top of SAP HANA. According to SAP, the blockchain-as-service launch will provide support for Hyperledger Fabric and MultiChain. Customers will be able to extend current applications to utilize blockchain, build applications, and create and build networks.

About 65 companies participate in the SAP blockchain co-innovation initiative to help customers use manufacturing and supply-chain products augmented by blockchain to enhance transparency, safety and collaboration in industries such as transportation, food, and pharmaceuticals.

The company is planning to make blockchain actionable for enterprise customers by integrating the technology into its portfolio. According to the press release, SAP Cloud Platform is now available on all major hyperscale cloud infrastructure providers, living up to its promise to be the agnostic cloud platform to better serve customers.

Earlier last month, the company started working with the U.S. sausage maker Johnsonville, as well as Naturipe Farms and Maple Leaf, to pilot a project that tracks the origin of food products across the supply chain as a part of its Farm to Consumer initiative.

Moreover, SAP has also announced it is forming a blockchain consortium, members of which are entitled to use tech developed by the group. Notable firms in the consortium currently include HP Enterprise, Intel and UPS.

Recently, the company also announced plans to collaborate with Accenture, Capgemini and Deloitte to accelerate customer adoption of SAP S/4HANA Cloud in the process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing and service industries.
