Foremost payment platform Visa has officially announced the introduction of a new program to create an enabling environment for creatives.
The new program, officially referred to as the Visa Creator Program, is designed to help numerous creatives ranging from musicians and fashion designers to filmmakers and artists to build new businesses and or expand current ones in a way that accommodates Non-fungible tokens (NFT).
The launch of the program was announced in a press release by the company on March 30.
Speaking on the development, the Visa Head of Crypto Cuy Sheffield explained that it is of great necessity because the NFTs have already shown continuously that it has the potential to become a powerful accelerator for the creator economy.
The Visa senior officer, who was quoted to have said this in the press release added that the company has been studying the NFT ecosystem and its potential impacts on the future of commerce, retail and social media for a long time before the decision to make the significant move was finally made.
“We’ve been studying the NFT ecosystem and its potential impacts on the future of commerce, retail and social media. Through the Visa Creator Program, we want to help this new breed of small and micro businesses tap into new mediums for digital commerce.”
Believed to be worth an estimated $100 billion, the creator economy, which this move is designed to focus on, is regarded as the fastest-growing category of small business with over 50 million people.
To kick start the programme, a group of creators will join a cohort-driven program designed to build and deepen their fluency in crypto commerce and traditional payments.
This pilot program will focus on supporting creators in five key areas.
These keys areas include Community building, Access to thought leaders, exposure to Visa’s clients and partners, and a stipend to help them begin their career in the space.
Reacting to the development, a former professional athlete, Micah Johnson, revealed that in the early days of his NFT career, he relied on a community of NFT experts and advocates to find his feet in this new world.
Micah, who is the brain behind Aku, and one of the first participants to work with the Visa Creator Program added that he is very excited to work with Visa in providing that same type of mentorship to emerging artists setting out on their NFT journey.
“I’m excited to work with Visa to provide that same type of mentorship to emerging artists setting out on their NFT journey,” said he.
