Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Files 8 Trademark Applications Including Crypto Trading

Earlier, Meta had already filed a trademark application with the Brazilian National Institute of Industry Property (NPI)  a few months after the announcement of the successful rebranding.

In efforts to further expand into the metaverse as earlier declared by the social media giant, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, formerly known as Facebook is launching big into virtual and crypto products as it has filed trademark applications including crypto trading.

Meta Eyes Big Expansion in Metaverse with Its Trademark Applications

As Meta continues to eye an expansion in the metaverse, the platform has filed eight trademark applications which includes crypto trading to register its logo. Among the 8 trademarks, six were basically committed to cryptocurrency and blockchain-based technologies.

Licensed metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis had unveiled this in a recent tweet where he disclosed information on all the items that the applications cover. The tweet reads:

“Meta Platforms has filed 8 trademark applications for its Logo. The applications cover:

  •  Crypto tokens
  •  Blockchain software
  •  Virtual currency exchanges
  •  Financial + Currency trading
  •  Digital, crypto, and virtual currencies.”

The new development marks a milestone serving as a headway to help the social media giant venture significantly into the virtual and crypto trading space. However, it apparently reflects the platform’s relenting efforts on its goals to go big into the metaverse.

Mr. Kondoudis acknowledged this after Meta submitted the new trademarks to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 18, 2022, saying:

“These filings reflect the company’s strategy for moving into the metaverse. Meta clearly has significant plans for the virtual economy that will drive it.”

According to reports, the social media giant had long revealed interest to significantly venture into the metaverse ever since it successfully rebranded from Facebook to Meta. It also serves as the inspiration behind the new name “Meta”. As such, Meta has previously made a similar move like this as reports reveal that this is not the first time Meta will be filing for trademark registration for crypto-related products.

Meta had filed a trademark application with the Brazilian National Institute of Industry Property (NPI)  a few months after the announcement of the successful rebranding. The platform had filed the trademark in a bid to launch crypto-related products and services like crypto trading, crypto wallet, and crypto exchange operations.

Meta to Integrate NFTs with Instagram

Most recently, Meta had disclosed plans to integrate NFTs on the popular social media platform, Instagram. Commenting on this, the CEO and founder of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg in a Conference at SXSW, noted that he envisions Instagram users being able to mint their digital avatar’s clothing as NFTs.

Zuckerberg explained that since NFTs are unique crypto tokens that exist on a blockchain like Ethereum and signify ownership, NFTs would be included under Meta’s broad filings that cover any “crypto tokens.”
