AI Takes Center Stage at Alphabet’s Google I/O 2023 Developers Conference

One of the most impressive AI features that Google announced is ‘Help Me Write’ that is intended for simplifying email creation.

Google LLC, an American multinational tech company owned by Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL), kicked off its annual I/O Developers conference on Wednesday. During the conference, Google announced several new products but artificial intelligence (AI) took center stage. Moreover, the tech giant’s main competitors including Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) have significantly narrowed down to artificial intelligence in the recent past. Additionally, Google CEO Sundar Pichai oversaw the launch of a new foldable smartphone dubbed Pixel Fold to compete with Samsung’s similar products.

During the  I/O Google annual developers conference, which took place in Mountain View, California, the company noted that the pre-orders for Pixel Fold are open with a starting price of $1,799. However, the shipping of the Pixel Fold is expected to begin next month.

AI Announcements at I/O 2023 by Google

During the conference, one of the most impressive AI features that Google announced is the ‘Help Me Write’ to simplify email creation. The feature is meant to help Google email users write more confidently and save time creating drafts.

“Just type in the prompt of what you want, hit create, and a full draft appears,” Pichai said.

The company has taken a lot of time developing machine language that is seamless with human understanding and writing models.

“As you may have heard, AI has had a very busy year. With generative AI, we’re taking the next step,” Pichai added.

The company also announced that it has developed a new general-purpose large language model dubbed PaLM 2, which can ostensibly generate a wide variety of human-like text in response to human input. Interestingly, the PaLM 2 is well-versed and skilled in math, software development, and language translation reasoning. and natural language generation. Moreover, PaLM 2 can work with more than 20 programming languages.

Google launched the LaMDA language model in 2021 and upgraded it through a more powerful PaLM model in 2022, which has now been updated to PaLM 2.

The company is also releasing to the general public its Bard artificial intelligence chatbot, a major competitor to Microsoft’s collaboration with OpenAI.

Google also announced a generative AI feature to search with a product called Converse. By offering a conversational mode to Google Workspace users, the Converse was touted as a huge step towards generative artificial intelligence.

The company also announced a generative A. I product that will help Google Cloud users according to chief Thomas Kurian.

Market Outlook

Following the launch of several products, GOOGL shares gained on Wednesday, closing the day trading at $111.75, up 4.1 percent from the day’s opening price. The $1.37 trillion valued tech giant has seen its stock market gain more than 26 percent YTD to trade around $112.05 during the after-hours session.
