Both partners have rolled out a new crypto smartphone dubbed JamboPhone to make it easy for users in developing nations to access the Aptos blockchain.

Aptos Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the Aptos blockchain, has teamed up with Jambo, a blockchain protocol connecting Africans with global blockchains.

In a recent announcement, the foundation said the partnership is based on a shared vision to harness the power of Web3 technology to empower individuals in developing countries such as Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

Aptos and Jambo Launch New Smartphone for Crypto Users

The partnership aims to enhance Web3 accessibility and education in regions with the most to gain through the combination of Aptos’s pioneering blockchain tech with Jambo’s focus on digital inclusion. Together, Aptos Foundation and Jambo aim to eliminate barriers to digital participation, envisioning a future where everyone, regardless of location or economic standing, can access and benefit from Web3 advancements.

“As we look to the future, the Aptos Foundation and Jambo partnership stands as a significant step towards realizing the potential of Web3 for global empowerment. By prioritizing accessibility and education, we aim to ensure that the benefits of technological advancement are accessible to all, paving the way for a more connected and empowered global community,” said the Foundation.

Both partners have rolled out a new crypto smartphone dubbed JamboPhone to make it easy for users in developing nations to access the Aptos blockchain. According to the announcement, the budget-friendly smartphone priced at $99 is aimed at unlocking the digital economy for users in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

So far, JamboPhone is already available in more than 40 countries worldwide, serving as a gateway to the Aptos ecosystem. The smartphone comes equipped with pre-installed applications like Petra, a leading Aptos-compatible wallet, and the Jambo App, ensuring seamless integration with the Aptos blockchain.

Aptos Enters Smartphone Market Following Solana’s Lead

Aptos Foundation’s unveiling of the JamboPhone marks a significant move, positioning Aptos as the second blockchain protocol to introduce its smartphone, following in the footsteps of Solana.

Solana had earlier released its first Android smartphone, the Saga, in June 2022 through its subsidiary Solana Mobile. Initially priced at $1000, the Saga saw a price drop to $599 after failing to attract significant interest.

However, the dynamics changed in December 2023 when the price of the Solana-based memecoin Bonk surged, creating an arbitrage opportunity, as the Saga came bundled with 30 million of these tokens. The protocol’s limited stock of 20,000 phones quickly sold out in the United States and Europe, although some orders were canceled and refunded due to inventory issues.
