Both Google Cloud and Celo would be addressing the key challenges faced by the sustainability-focused startups in the Celo Network.

In an interesting development, the Celo Foundation announced its partnership with Google Cloud services to support projects in Celo’s blockchain ecosystem as well as push ahead with the early adoption of Google Cloud services.

As part of this collaboration, founders building on Celo will be able to access the credits for Google Cloud and Firebase usage. Thus, it would help in enhancing Celo’s mobile-first infrastructure along with decentralized applications (dApps).

Firebase is a web application development platform built by Google that offers developers several tools and services for building apps. This includes real-time databases, authentication, messaging, and cloud storage.

As per the announcement, the Google Cloud team will provide mentorship and guidance to the Celo Foundation’s founders in the Residence program. Besides, Google’s team will also participate in the virtual Celo Camp accelerator program which supports entrepreneurs in building sustainability-focused startups. Furthermore, both these organizations will also co-host events and workshops focused on Web 3 innovation and sustainability. Commenting on the development, Xochitl Cazador, the Celo Foundation’s head of ecosystem growth said:

“This new, expanded partnership between Google and the Celo Foundation enhances the ability to collaboratively create broader awareness for blockchain technology and its ability to scale real-world use cases on Celo. Google Cloud’s core team will also support the Celo Foundation through joint hackathons, workshops, and events centered on the intersection of Web3 and sustainability. The partnership aims to further amplify both teams’ belief that blockchain technology is well suited to address environmental matters.”

Addressing Key Challenges for Sustainability-Focused Startups

Cazador stated that both Google Cloud and Celo would be addressing the key challenges faced by the sustainability-focused startups in the Celo Network. These startups also majorly face challenges such as “highly technical onboarding processes, complex interfaces, and unfamiliar transaction fee currencies”.

But Celo and Google will alleviate the strain on emerging projects by allowing the ecosystem builders to tackle the largest sustainability challenges of today and tomorrow. With its Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus, Celo has already achieved carbon negativity. Besides, it has also gained recognition in the Web3 community as a leader in regenerative finance (ReFi). The Celo blockchain network hosts more than 1,000 projects across 150 countries.
