Former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton Joins One River Digital Academic and Regulatory Advisory Council

During the three years that Clayton served as the chairman of the SEC, he was working with initiatives that advanced the economy’s growth.

The former Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Jay Clayton has joined crypto investment manager One River Digital Asset Management to take up an adversary role. Clayton’s new role came about three months after he resigned from the SEC. Clayton served as Chair of the SEC from May 2017 to December 2020. Before his new appointment with One River Digital Asset Management, the SEC’s former chairman also became the non-executive chair of Apollo Global Management (NYSE: APO).

On the 29th of March, One River Digital Asset Management, the parent company of digital asset fund One River Digital, announced Clayton’s new role. Apart from Clayton, the firm also welcomed two other executives on board. The other new executives are former White House adviser Kevin Hassett and economist Jon Orszag. As stated in the press release, the three will work with the firm’s Academic and Regulatory Advisory Council effective immediately.

The chief executive officer (CEO), chief investment officer (CIO), and founder of One River Asset Management, Eric Peters, commented on the latest development. Expressing excitement with the new appointments, Peters said:

“We are excited to have brought together such a distinguished group with deep and varying regulatory and policy experience and will continue to broaden the council to include thought leaders with diverse backgrounds and expertise.”

In a joint statement, the new executives said that they were impressed by the CEO’s move to see their views on crucial issues relating to the firm. They added that they look forward to working with One River “as the effects of digitization on our markets play out across the globe.”

Speaking on the firm’s Academic and Regulatory Advisory Council, One River’s CEO said:

“The One River Academic and Regulatory Advisory Council will help us consider how these new digital systems and the investment opportunities they present will best fit within existing policy, while also helping us think through how to advance these frameworks in ways that ensure the US continues to lead the world in financial innovation and asset management.”

During the three years that Clayton served as the chairman of the SEC, he was Impactful with initiatives that advanced the economy’s growth. The former SEC chairman also focused on investment opportunities, market integrity, as well as the protection of investors. In addition, the former SEC chairman has a law career, including a 20-year experience at law company Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. Clayton has now rejoined the law company as Senior Policy Advisor.

Hassett was senior advisor to former US President Donald Trump and currently serves as the vice president and managing director at The Lindsey Group.

Also, Orszag is currently the senior managing director of global economic consulting company Compass Lexecon.
