Curtis Jackson, aka “50 Cent”, began accepting bitcoin payments for his new album.

One of the biggest American hip-hop stars Curtis Jackson, known as “50 Cent”, has announced that his new album ‘Animal Ambition’ will be available for buying in the digital currency.

Fans of 50 Cent will be able to pay in virtual money for his new release by clicking on a bitcoin payment option at the artist’s Shopify online store. The merchants can receive bitcoins, dollars or the combination of two.

The transactions will be operated by the Atlanta-based BitPay payments processor. Shopify incorporated payments for its buyers’ network in 2013.

50 Cents has not yet made any comments.

Besides being a famous rapper, Jackson is also a successful entrepreneur. Thus, he invested in Glaceau, a company that produces Vitaminwater. This agreement would eventually provide $140 million of net worth annually.

BitPay’s executive chairman, Tony Gallipi, commented on the recent announcement: “We are excited to see high profile independent artists use bitcoin and 50 Cent’s trail as an innovator is outstanding.”

50 Cents has sold over 30 million records until now. The most successful include ‘Before I Self Destruct’, ‘Curtis’ and a hit album ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’. ‘Animal Ambition’ is his fifth album.

In February, the hip-hop star has stopped working with Interscope Records label and signed a contract with Caroline company, which is part of the Independent Services division of Capital Records.

Besides his investment in Glaceua, the rapper recently engaged in the other significant project. In 2013, he started production of Street King energy shots. The launch of the new energy drinks business provides revenues of $2 billion a year.

Various artists have recently showed their interest in the virtual currency.

In the end of 2013, Snoop Dogg intended to make his next album available in the digital currency. Still, he has not made any steps to make an official decision.

He just hinted that the record would be “available in bitcoin and delivered in a drone”. Moreover, Snoop has made a public exchange with Coinbase via his Twitter account about his idea and said that “I want to make it happen”.

Mel B, former Spice Girl member, expressed interest in the virtual currency for her new single. She said: “I love how new technology makes our lives easier, and to me that’s exciting. Bitcoin unites my fans around the world using one currency. They can just pay using bitcoins!”

Furthermore, a comedian artist Donald Glover suggested the possibility of accepting bitcoin for his new music project.
