Telegram Reaches 1 Billion Users

At the beginning of 2018, Telegram had 200 million users, which means that the popularity of the messenger has incredibly increased.

Good news for Pavel Durov and the Telegram community: the number of users of the messenger has exceeded one billion.

“The number of Telegram users has exceeded one billion. This is easy to see by looking at the IDs issued to new users. Recently, accounts with numbers 1’000’000’000 + have been issued,” reads the post from Telegram TON (Telegram  Open Network) channel.

It is notable that this number is approximate as Telegram IDs are issued not in sequential order but from pools. Moreover, it’s important to bear in mind that this information was provided by the unofficial Telegram channel. Though IDs have been issued for 1 billion times (we’ve verified this data), it doesn’t mean that this figure is equal to the number of users.

However, this ‘billion’ still indicates the hasty growth of the Telegram user base. At the beginning of 2018, Telegram had 200 million users, which means that the popularity of the messenger has incredibly increased since then.

To get the Telegram user ID, you should open the Telegram app, type ‘userinfobot’ in the area for search, then choose the userinfobot contact and click on the ‘Start’ button.

It seems that the competition between Pavel Durov’s Telegram Open Network and Facebook‘s Libra is escalating. Despite the fact that Facebook has about 2.5-3 billion users, Telegram provides a strong competition to Mark Zuckerberg’s social networking platform. As Telegram is enticing the audience from Facebook, the U.S. authorities may throw a spanner in the works of both the companies equally.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has already started to undermine the plans of Telegram. The community is waiting for the launch of the TON blockchain project and the issue of Gram token.

But because of numerous problems and ‘run-ins’ with the SEC that decided to treat Grams as unregistered securities, the launch is delayed till April 30, 2020, while the court’s hearing on the case of the status of Grams was postponed to February 2020.

Telegram is a cloud-based instant messaging and voice over IP service developed by the Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov and his brother Nikolai. Telegram client apps are available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Windows NT, macOS, and Linux. With Telegram, users can send messages, share photos, videos and files of different types. Moreover, it is possible to create groups for up to 200,000 participants or channels for broadcasting to unlimited audiences.

Earlier this year, Telegram integrated the Button Wallet which enables users to purchase crypto against U.S. dollars. By providing the crypto-to-fiat functionality in one of the world’s most widely used messaging platforms, the Button Wallet is pushing a wide range of crypto use cases. Currently, the Button Wallet has over 100,000 registered users and 2000 active users across the U.K., U.S., Germany, Venezuela, and Indonesia.
