Telegram has also added a 30% discount on advertising, allowing developers and content creators to promote their businesses at a cheaper rate.

Telegram, one of the leading social media messaging platforms in the world, announced that mini app developers on the platform can now use their earned Stars to receive rewards in Toncoin (TON) or purchase discounted Telegram advertisements.

Telegram Stars are virtual currencies developed by the company that allow users to buy digital products on mini apps through in-app purchases on both iOS and Android devices. The Stars were officially launched on June 7, 2024.

New Feature for Mini App Developers

In a recent blog post, the social messaging app revealed that it has introduced a new feature that allows mini app developers to spend the Stars they receive from users.

According to the company, app developers on Telegram can convert their Stars into the valuable digital asset TON or save money on advertising, helping them grow their apps and reach more users.

Additionally, Telegram has extended the service to content creators on the platform. The company stated that creators can now charge for their posts, videos, and photos. “Now, content creators can accept Stars by publishing paid photos or videos on their channels. Subscribers will be allowed to view such posts only after paying the author to unlock them,” said Telegram.

In addition to charging for their content, Telegram has made it possible for creators to receive crypto rewards in exchange for their Stars. These creators will be able to swap their Stars for TON as well as use them to promote their channels within the app at no additional cost.

However, Telegram noted that users will still have to cover taxes and payment system fees when checking out of their Telegram Ads accounts.

Discounted Advertising and Other Updates

Telegram has also added a 30% discount on advertising, allowing developers and content creators to promote their businesses at a cheaper rate. This move aims to provide developers building on the platform with greater flexibility and new opportunities to benefit from their work, creating a cost-effective way of reaching new users.

Apart from the ads discount, Telegram has updated its app to allow users to explore the platform more efficiently. According to the recent blog post, users can search for stories by location.

For example, Telegram users on vacation can add location tags to their stories to enable others to find the spot without leaving the app. Additionally, the company has added a new feature for link widget stories, although this feature is only available for premium users. According to Telegram, the link widget allows you to add a custom link name, replacing the URL text at the top of the preview.
