The Fifth Bitcoin Black Friday

It is insane looking back on the history of Bitcoin to see how far it has come. During the first Bitcoin Black Friday no one knew what Bitcoin was or what you could use it for. This year, it’s widely known and Bitcoin’s underlying technology is being disseminated into different industries.

The theme this year won’t be highlighting what you can buy with Bitcoin, but a celebration of the history of Bitcoin.

“We launched Bitcoin Black Friday to provide a foil to Bitcoin’s negative brand image due to the Silk Road.” said Jon Holmquist, “We were successful.”

This year the focus will be much more internal, much more focused on advocating for issues affecting Bitcoiners and affecting Bitcoin merchants.

Bitcoin Black Friday is simply an event where Bitcoin merchants list deals and coupons for Black Friday, which this year is on November 25th. It was started in 2012 and has had four successful events each year on Black Friday. Bitcoin Black Friday was first organized by Bitcoin evangelist Jon Holmquist more than four years ago, This year’s event is the fifth annual event. The first year, 60 merchants participated, helping gain much needed attention and legitimacy for Bitcoin. The second year, 600 merchants participated and really proved that you can use Bitcoin for commerce.
