The company said that the upcoming Pokemon games will be an open-world adventure marking a new evolutionary step in the Pokemon series.

During a live-streamed event on Sunday, February 27, the Pokemon Company announced two new titles – Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. After the 2019-release of Pokemon Sword and Shield, this is the latest installment in the main series Pokemon Games.

The Pokemon company said that it shall be launching these games on Nintendo Switch later this year in 2022. The company describes Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as “an open world adventure”. Developer Game Freak also said that these games “take a new evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series”.

The trailer shows some familiar Pokemon characters like Lucario, Magnemite, Hoppip, Drifloon, Meowth, Combee, Pikachu, and others. However, there are also some generation nine starter characters in the game which are still unnamed.

But it has put some light on some of the special characters like Fuecoco, a “laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that does things at its own pace,” Sprigatito, a “capricious, attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon,” and Quaxly, an “earnest and tidy Duckling Pokémon”.

The Pokemon Company has also put an official description for the titles like Scarlet and Violet which reads:

“Trainers can explore an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness. Pokémon can be seen everywhere in this wide-open world — in the skies, in the sea, and on the streets. As one of the main characters, trainers will jump into the world of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet to begin their adventure, where they will have a different outfit depending on which game they are playing.

Trainers will then choose either Sprigatito, the grass cat pokémon, Fuecoco, the fire croc pokémon, or Quaxly, the duckling pokémon to be their first partner pokémon before setting off on their journey”.

Pokemon Announces Updates to the Existing Games

The graphics of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet also look very much similar to the recently released “Pokémon Legends: Arceus”.

Additionally, the Pokemon Company also announced some key updates to the previous versions of the games. Pokemon Legends: Arceus, launched earlier this year has received a software upgrade dubbed “daybreak”.

Besides, the broadcast further announced that Pokemon from the All region shall now appear in “Pokemon Go”.
