Uber Technologies, Inc. is an American multinational company that appeared in the arena of ridesharing services in 2009. At that time it was known as UberCab but two years later it was renamed and started provided its services under the name that is known today.

However, now its services are not limited to ridesharing only. Now the company offers food delivery and a bicycle-sharing system. Being based in San Francisco, Uber us the only company in the United States that offers these three above-mentioned groups of services. Its geography is more than just impressive. It s available in more than 785 metropolitan all over the world. To access its offers, users do not need to do something extraordinary as the company’s services can be accessed via its web and mobile apps.

As of 2019, the estimated number of its users worldwide is about  110 million worldwide users. According to the data provided on June 30, 2019, every day Uber makes approximately 18 million trips. And as for the volume of its gross bookings across all the platforms, in 2018 it was $50 billion. In the United States, the company enjoys a 69% market share for passenger transport and a 25% market share for food delivery.

It is difficult to underestimate the company’s contribution to the development of the sharing economy and society in general. Today the term “uberisation” is used to describe the changes in industries that have happened due to its impact.

The IPO that Uber had in May 2019 became the largest IPO of 2019 and brought the company over $8.1 billion.

The company is continuously looking for the most appropriate and feasible approaches to business development and is not afraid of changes. In October 2019, it introduced over 25 updates to its platforms with a view to increasing their efficiency. The most significant one was uniting its ride-hailing and food-delivery services under one umbrella in the Uber app.

Among the recent updates, it’s also worth mentioning the Uber Copter helicopter taxis that are now available for a wide audience (earlier such a service could be accessed by premium members only). Now to get from the JFK airport to anywhere in New York City by helicopter, it is enough just to open the Uber app and book a trip.
