During the Unpacked event on Wednesday, Samsung disclosed that the new smartphone series is powered by Galaxy AI, its artificial intelligence model.

Samsung Electronics, one of the world’s leading smartphone and electronics manufacturers, has unveiled its new premium flagship product, the Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup, designed with advanced built-in artificial intelligence (AI) features.

The company made the announcement on January 17, 2024, at the year’s Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California, following a showcase of the cutting-edge devices at its Kings London office earlier in the week.

Specifications and Pricing

As a new standard for Samsung’s flagship series, the Galaxy S24 debuted in various variants, including the S24, S24 Plus, and the feature-rich S24 Ultra.

For the S24 and S24+ models, Samsung said that the smartphones are built with Qualcomm systems-on-chips (SoCs) and Samsung’s proprietary Exynos chipset. Meanwhile, the S24 Ultra, the company’s premier model, boasts robust specifications with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3 optimized for Galaxy.

Samsung has adjusted the screen size for the new Galaxy S24 series. The base S24 model now has a 6.2-inch screen, up from 6.1 inches, and the S24 Plus increased to 6.7 inches from 6.6 inches. The S24 Ultra maintains its 6.8-inch size but has a flat display instead of curved edges.

Additionally, the S24 Ultra’s metal body is now titanium, making it slightly thinner but not lighter than previous models. The base S24 and S24 Plus have a redesigned look with less rounded, more rectangular edges.

Samsung modified the S24 Ultra’s second zoom camera from 10x to 5x optical zoom, although it still achieves 10x zoom using a pixel binning technique. The move is a significant change to one of the key features of the Galaxy Ultra lineup.

The company said the base product, Galaxy S24, will be sold for $800 while the Galaxy S24 Plus will be priced at $1000.For the Ultra version, the premium flagship phone will be available in the market for $1300, a $100 increase from the previous series in the same range.

The phones are available for pre-order and will officially start shipping on January 31, 2024.

AI-Powered Smartphone Range

During the Unpacked event on Wednesday, Samsung disclosed that the new smartphone series is powered by Galaxy AI, its artificial intelligence model.

“Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities,” said TM Roh, a top executive at Samsung.

With the Galaxy AI integrated into the phones, users can expect different AI features, including “Live Translate” for instant voice and text translations. This feature assists users in writing with the right tone and foreign language interpretation during calls.

The S24 series supports 13 languages and 17 dialects and works for calls between smartphones and landlines. Users can save their preferred language settings, and the phone also keeps track of the languages used in each call. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, with the S Pen, uses AI to summarize handwritten notes, turn them into digital text, and check for spelling and grammar errors.

Samsung said the new smartphones were built with AI-powered photo editing tools. Users can remove or adjust the position of objects in their photos and fill in borders to fix a crooked photo frame with the generative AI tool.

Furthermore, the Galaxy’s AI provides a photo edit suggestion option, giving users automated feedback on optimizing and tweaking their photos.

Samsung has guaranteed users seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for all three phones.
