The news of Sony agreeing to acquire Audeze came to light shortly after the company announced two new wireless PlayStation audio devices.

PlayStation operator and American multinational video game company Sony Interactive Entertainment is acquiring premium headphone manufacturer Audeze. The company announced that it has entered into an agreement with the audio technology brand as it seeks to go bigger in the audio space. Specifically, Sony purchasing Audeze will contribute to its effort to improve the audio experience of PlayStation games.

Sony Interactive Entertainment to Acquire Audeze

Sony Interactive Entertainment will benefit from its agreement with Audeze as the brand is a leader in audio technology. With a track record of developing award-winning headphones, Audeze has consistently provided unique sound experience to its customers. Under the partnership between Audeze and Sony, the audio technology developer will continue to operate independently while it also enjoys belonging to the PlayStation ecosystem. There is currently no information on the financial terms and other conditions involved in the deal between Sony and Audeze.

The Senior Vice President, Platform Experience, at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hideaki Nishino, commented on the acquisition:

“Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players. We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset.”

On the other hand, the CEO of Audeze, Sankar Thiagasamudram, stated that Sony offers a notable opportunity to the company. The chief executive said the collaboration supports the company’s effort to deliver high-quality headphones to cater to audiophiles, recording professionals, and gamers. Thiagasamudram added:

“We’re looking forward to contributing to Sony Interactive’s effort to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level.”

Sony’s Innovative Moves

Notably, the news of Sony agreeing to acquire Audeze came to light shortly after the company announced two new wireless PlayStation audio devices. The company unveiled wireless headphones Pulse Elite and a set of wireless earbuds dubbed Pulse Explore. While Pulse Elite is designed as an over-ear headset with an inbuilt retractable microphone and provides “lossless audio,” Pulse Explore is wireless earbuds.

The recent relationship between Sony and Audeze is just the latest among the video game company’s diverse collaborations. Last month, it signed a 10-year deal with Microsoft to keep the “Call on Duty” video game on PlayStation.
