Ancora Pen Company Prepares for Release of the World’s First ‘Bitcoin Pen’

Premium-class pen producer created the limited series of 976 pens decorated with golden symbols of the dominant cryptocurrency.

Ancora is known for producing luxury pens, which are usually given a theme and often valued as collectibles. They have been doing it for almost 100 years now, opening its doors in 1919 as one of the first Italian companies to produce pens. The production is highly appreciated for its artistry, craftsmanship and uniqueness. Ancora once made Titanic-themed pens that used real pieces of the ship’s first class cabin – that is a great example of their approach to creating pens.

Indeed, it even considers itself one of the “founding fathers” of the pen-making industry. Now the company is about to introduce its craft to the Bitcoin world.

With buzz surrounding Bitcoin’s rapid growth in value, Ancora has decided to develop a luxury pen series with a Bitcoin theme.

Collectors have two options when purchasing a Bitcoin pen. The fountain pens – the highest level of luxury pens – are available for $1,000 USD apiece during a pre-sale period. A slightly cheaper rollerball pen costs $750 during the pre-sale. Once the pens go into production, prices are to rise to $1,250 and $1,000, respectively. Prices will rise once again when the pens go to retail – $2,500 for a fountain pen and $2,250 for a rollerball pen.

Ancora has limited the production of both pens. The company is to make only 88 fountain and 888 rollerball pens. Each pen is engraved with its production number. Ancora offers one more feature for the collectors: one can order a pen with a fancy number like 888/888. It costs from 0.25 to 1 BTC depending on the specific production number.

The pens are black with gold trim,  the middle portion of the body features golden Bitcoin symbols in a repeating pattern. Beneath the caps there are 18 Karat gold nibs, which accentuate the design and highlight the luxury craftsmanship of both pens.

The Bitcoin-themed pens come packaged in a red box emblazoned with Ancora’s logo. The box includes a cleaning cloth for the pens and documentation on the company.

As a testament to its dedication to quality, and an explanation for its pens’ limited runs, Ancora has written on its website:

“We disclaim mass production in favor of manual labor, the brand ensures its future, based on the strong traditions of the past, being thus true to its founder and name.”

The pre-sale for both pens opened on December 18, 2017 at 12:00 GMT. The company accepts payments in Bitcoin, Ethereum, EUR and USD.

In February 2018, Ancora plans to announce the production of the second cryptocurrency-themed pen series. The company will give customers an opportunity to choose which cryptocurrency should adorn the new pens through a voting process conducted in Ancora’s official Telegram channel.
