Amazon CEO’s Ex-Wife MacKenzie Scott Donated $4.2B within 4 Months

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, MacKenzie Scott is the 18th richest person in the world.

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott said she has donated nearly $4.2 billion over the last four months to support the unprecedented global health crisis. Specifically, Scott said she donated billions of dollars to 384 US-based organizations across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C.

On the 15th of December, Scott published a blog post titled “384 Ways to Help.” She revealed:

“…I asked a team of advisors to help me accelerate my 2020 giving through immediate support to people suffering the economic effects of the crisis. They took a data-driven approach to identifying organizations with strong leadership teams and results, with special attention to those operating in communities facing high projected food insecurity, high measures of racial inequity, high local poverty rates, and low access to philanthropic capital.”

MacKenzie Scott Donated to Help Mitigate the Effect of the Pandemic

Speaking of her effort to help people struggling with the negative effect of the pandemic, she noted that several billionaires have acquired more riches during the health crisis.

In addition, Scott said that the team conducted their research and sought the opinions of field experts, funders, and highly experienced non-profit leaders and volunteers. After then, the team used the garnered information to strategize on funding.

The philanthropist also stated that the team considered 6,490 organizations before concluding on the 384 selected. Out of the over 6,000 organizations, the team did thorough research on 822. She said 384 organizations were finally selected and the remaining 438 are on hold due to certain conditions.

Scott’s Giving Pledge

Scott further revealed that the funding is still ongoing. She noted that she is still “far from” her pledge, giving back most of her wealth during her lifetime.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Scott is the 18th richest person in the world. The billionaire became one of the wealthiest women in the world after her divorce with Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos. After Scott and Bezos got married in 1993, the couple founded Amazon, becoming the world’s richest couple.

The couple announced their divorce last year after 25 years of marriage. As part of the separation, Scott secured 4% ownership of Amazon, leaving Bezos with 75% of the company’s shares. The stake is now worth billions of dollars and earned her the position of a top wealthy person in the world.

According to Forbes real-time billionaires list, Mackenzie Scott is worth $57.2 billion.

Despite the poor effect of the coronavirus pandemic on several businesses, Amazon has been recording gains. AMZN is currently 0.03% up to $3,242 at after-hours trading. Amazon has gained 81.67% over the past years and has jumped over 75% in its year-to-date record. Also, the company has grown by 5.23% in the last three months. In addition to the constant increases, Amazon upped 4.36% over the past month and 4.41% in the last five days.
