With the release of the in-house M1 Silicon chipset and the macOS 11 Big Sur, Apple MacBooks will get the perfect combination of indigenous hardware and software code.

On Tuesday, November 10, Apple announced the launch of the first Mac series made with the indigenously built Silicon chips. Earlier this year, Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced moving away from the Intel-core technology to its own in-house processors.

The all-new Macbook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the Mac mini now come powered by the M1 chipset. As per what Apple claims, the M1 chipset “delivers up to 3.5x faster CPU, up to 6x faster GPU, up to 15x faster machine learning (ML) capabilities, and battery life up to 2x longer than before”.

The tech giant also unveiled the macOS 11 Big Sur to work in co-ordination with its M1 chipsets. Speaking at the Apple event, CEO Tim Cook said:

“The introduction of three new Macs featuring Apple’s breakthrough M1 chip represents a bold change that was years in the making, and marks a truly historic day for the Mac and for Apple. M1 is by far the most powerful chip we’ve ever created, and combined with Big Sur, delivers mind-blowing performance, extraordinary battery life, and access to more software and apps than ever before. We can’t wait for our customers to experience this new generation of Mac, and we have no doubt it will help them continue to change the world.”

Apple Making Some Bold Changes

This is certainly a bold transition of combining all its devices with its indigenous chipsets and code. Apple is known over the years for delivering a seamless user experience across its range of products. Many of the industry veterans supported Apple’s decision about the transition.

The macOS11 Big Sur will be released this Thursday. Apple said that users will immediately notice the changes in its aesthetics and design while closing gaps with the iPhone’s iOS.

Besides, the Big Sur also comes with more customizable Control Center. It will also bring significant changes to some baked-in apps like Mail, Photos, and Safari. The Big Sur App Store will show the types of data apps will collect. It will also show if the apps share data with third-parties.

The new M1 silicon chip also brings along the latest image signal processor (ISP). This ensures improved camera image quality and noise reduction. Explaining about the high-end security with the chipset, the Apple press release notes:

“The Secure Enclave in M1, combined with Big Sur, delivers best-in-class security with features like Touch ID, which makes it easy to unlock MacBook Air and make secure online purchases using Apple Pay with the touch of a finger”.

“Advancements of this magnitude only come from making bold changes. This is exactly why we are transitioning to Mac Apple silicon at Apple,” said Tim Cook, speaking at the event.
