JUSTICE token was launched to honour two euthanized pets amid controversy.
The token reached a $53.8 million market cap but faced backlash from crypto enthusiasts.
Following the viral news of the death of Peanut the Squirrel (P’Nut) and Fred the Raccoon earlier this month, their owner, Mark Longo, has decided to launch a crypto token in honor of their memory. Longo shared the update in a recent X video where he noted that the token will be called Justice for Pnut and Fred (JUSTICE).
According to the pet owner, he hopes to use JUSTICE to show the world that it is not okay, even for the government, to overstep their boundaries.
The Story behind the JUSTICE Token
As Longo confirms, he has decided to launch JUSTICE on the Solana blockchain. However, the entire project comes as a product of the events of early November when New York State environmental officers raided Longo’s animal sanctuary in Pine City.
Prior to that raid, P’Nut had already become a social media sensation, having a following of over half a million people.
At the time of the invasion, however, the officers cited laws against keeping wildlife as pets, eventually euthanizing P’Nut and Fred.
Though the tragic deaths of his pets sparked a wide outrage, Longo remains hurt about the incident. This explains his insistence on dragging the government to court in the pursuit of justice. He said partly:
“The government’s not gonna get away with this. Justice will be served for not only Fred and Peanut but for anyone affected by overstepped boundaries.”
Accusations Fly amid Rapid Token Success
Meanwhile, Longo also has blades fit members of the crypto community. He says various parties have been benefiting from his sad reality and trauma.
According to him, many individuals have floated token projects inspired by the story of his pets without his consent.
Interestingly, there have also been counter-allegations. Members of the PNUT crypto community also say that they previously donated $50,000 to Longo, which he allegedly might have already sold off.
Whatever the case may be, Longo has now launched JUSTICE and has maintained that it is the only coin he will ever launch. If that is the case, then it might be safe to say that he has subtly distanced himself from any other tokens that may want to ride on the influence of the memories of P’Nut and Fred.
JUSTICE, meanwhile, is already doing the numbers. The token presently boasts a market cap of $53.8 million and over 14,000 holders, according to data from Solscan.
