There is no assurance that Rishi Sunak will keep a spot on Liz Truss’s cabinet as Kwasi Kwarteng is already considered for the Treasury job.

The guessing game between who will be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom began after Boris Johnson announced he would be stepping down earlier in July. In a Monday election of a new Prime Minister, Liz Truss was elected as the next Conservative Party Leader, edging Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer and fellow contender for the top job in the country.

Commenting on her victory, Liz said “we will deliver, we will deliver and we will deliver” on the many challenges facing her new government, some of which will include the soaring inflation and the state of the NHS.

Liz Truss will also be at the helm of affairs in the coming general election in 2024. Appealing to stakeholders not to push for a snap election, she promised that she is going to deliver a massive victory to the Conservative Party at the polls when the time comes.

“I know that our beliefs resonate with the British people: our beliefs in freedom, in the ability to control your own life, in low taxes, in personal responsibility. “I know that’s why people voted for us in such numbers in 2019 and as your party leader I intend to deliver what we promised those voters right across our great country.”

With Liz set to be formally appointed on Tuesday, September 6, a whole new era and the chapter will be opened for many industries in the United Kingdom, particularly the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Liz is not a known critic of the digital currency ecosystem, but cannot be considered a major advocate as such.

In a tweet back in 2018, she said the United Kingdom need to “welcome cryptocurrencies in a way that doesn’t constrain their potential. Liberate free enterprise areas by removing regulations that restrict prosperity.”

Since then, Liz has not been seen publicly making commentary about the industry even though events surrounding the space have evolved significantly over the past three years.

Future of Crypto Under Prime Minister Liz Truss

Unlike her co-contender for the top job, Rishi Sunak, the industry had a glimpse of what the future of the industry could have looked like had he won the election to be the Prime Minister.

Sunak was not just pushing for a new comprehensive regulatory regime for the digital currency sector, he has already set the pace for Stablecoins to be recognized as official payment methods in the UK.

Amongst the proactive plans that were set in place under the leadership of Rishi Sunak was the pivot into the digital collectibles scene with the UK placed on the track to mint its own Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collection.

There is no assurance that Rishi Sunak will keep a spot on Liz Truss’s cabinet as Kwasi Kwarteng is already considered for the Treasury job.

As a forward-thinking nation, it is unlikely that Truss will backtrack on the pace set by the former Prime Minister. The pace and speed to bring the desired changes, however, cannot be predicted.
