Veteran footballer Lionel Messi has signed a contract deal worth more than $20 million with Socios.com, a ‘fan tokens’ crypto firm. The contract will see Messi promoting the company for three years.
Messi: New Global Brand Ambassador of Socios
According to a report by Reuters, Messi has joined the trend of global sports personalities diving into the crypto space in a bid to integrate soccer with crypto firms. The likes of NFL quarterback Tom Brady and NBA star LeBron James have led a similar path in previous times.
Nonetheless, the contract will see Messi joining Socios.com as its new global brand ambassador. The ambassador deal demands Lionel Messi to promote the crypto firm for a period of three years. Yet, no agreement was made on crypto payments.
Commenting on the contract deal, Messi expressed his delights on his new ambassadorial assignment saying:
“Fans deserve to be recognised for their support. They deserve opportunities to influence the teams they love…Socios.com exists to enhance the fan experience, to enable fans to ‘be more’. I’m proud to join Socios.com’s mission to create a more connected and rewarding future for fans around the world.”
The collaboration is aimed at providing fans across the globe with a more inclusive, exciting and rewarding future. This will see Messi promoting Socios.com to his 400 million followers while encouraging fans from different parts of the globe to come together and share their passion for their favorite teams by leveraging the use of Fan tokens which aims to create a more empowered and engaged digital community in sport.
Launching the Socios.com brand campaign, the team will organize multiple educational and promotional campaigns which will feature the four-time UEFA Champions League winner.
The founder and CEO of Socios.com, Alexandre Dreyfus expressed his anticipations towards their collaboration with Messi saying:
“Only very occasionally does a talent like Lionel Messi emerge, capable of making football even more special for the fans….I’m eager to start working together for a future in which fans can play a much more active role in their teams. We have come a long way in the last few years, but, if there is one thing the fans know, it is that with Lionel Messi in our team nothing is impossible.”
