Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse is one of the major financial service providers in the world today. The company offers its expertise in everything financials, ranging from private banking to asset management.
The story of Credit Suisse goes as far back as 1856, but their first multinational branch was not opened until 1942, around World War II. In 1978, the company was named Credit Suisse First Boston, due to the alliance formed between them and the First Boston Corporation in America. The alliance ended 28 years later, and the company dropped the old name and is simply known as “Credit Suisse”.

Credit Suisse did so well for themselves through the years, that they are famously renowned for being one of the very few establishments that did not receive financial support from the ruling government to stay liquid amidst the credit crisis worldwide.

In 2014, Credit Suisse was faced with a lawsuit in which they were charged with enabling some of their influential clients to get away with tax evasion. They copped to the allegations and came to a settlement agreement with the American Department of Justice. Shortly after, Tijdane Thiam was named CEO.

Former CEO Tijdane Thiam did so well for Credit Suisse, that in 2018, he was titled Banker of the year, and Credit Suisse won the award for best investment bank in Switzerland, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Following the retrenchment of Tijdane Thiam, Gottstein was employed as CEO to repair the damage done to the image of the organization. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gottstein implemented the method of lending to small-sized firms to help them keep afloat through the temporary shutdown of many businesses worldwide. Not only has Thomas been boosting the image of the firm in the eyes of the public, but also what his subordinates think of him. He has encouraged more face to face talks with the workers and improved working hours for the staff raising kids. In contrast to the way, Thiam ran things as CEO.

Credit Suisse currently operates in many countries around the globe with tens of thousands of workers of vast nationalities. They operate their wealth management businesses regionally, using the International wealth management, Asia Pacific, and Swiss universal bank. Investment banking is done with the aid of Investment Banking & Capital markets, and Global Markets.
