About

Cathie Wood established ARK Investment Management LLC (“ARK”) as a registered investment adviser with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in January 2014. With a wealth of over 40 years of experience in identifying and investing in innovative technologies, Cathie created ARK with a focus on disruptive innovation, enhancing research through new dimensions. Employing an open approach that spans various sectors, market capitalizations, and global regions, Cathie aims for ARK to pinpoint significant investment opportunities in public markets driven by technological advancements in DNA sequencing, robotics, artificial intelligence, energy storage, and blockchain technology. As the Chief Investment Officer (“CIO”) and Portfolio Manager, Cathie has shaped ARK’s philosophy and investment strategy and holds ultimate responsibility for investment decisions.

Before founding ARK, Cathie served for twelve years at AllianceBernstein as CIO of Global Thematic Strategies, managing assets exceeding $5 billion. She transitioned to Alliance Capital from Tupelo Capital Management, a hedge fund she co-founded, which in 2000 managed around $800 million in global thematic strategies. Earlier in her career, Cathie spent 18 years at Jennison Associates LLC in roles including Chief Economist, Equity Research Analyst, Portfolio Manager, and Director. Her career began in Los Angeles, California, where she worked as an Assistant Economist at The Capital Group. Cathie graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics from the University of Southern California in 1981.

Cathie has been acknowledged as a prominent fund manager in various media outlets. In 2018, Bloomberg editors included her in their second annual Bloomberg 50 list, which highlights individuals across business, entertainment, finance, politics, technology, and science who have shaped global business. Additionally, Fortune named her to its annual Fortune Investors Guide roundtable of experts, showcasing the best investing advice for 2019. In 2016, she received the “Women in Finance – Outstanding Contribution Award” from Market Media.
