Popular US actor and comedian Seth Green has been dealt a blow after he lost 4 high-value NFTs to a phishing attack.
NFT theft has recently become quite rampant amid a wider existence of cyber attacks and hacks within the crypto and blockchain technology industry. And joining a long list of victims is popular US actor and comedian Seth Green.
Seth Green Loses 4 High-Value Assets to NFT Theft
Taking to his Twitter page to announce the development, Green claims he has fallen victim to a phishing attack, and as a result, has lost his prized possession of 4 high-value non-fungible tokens NFTs. He also begged the community not to buy the NFTs as he moves to quickly resolve the situation.
Additionally, the celebrity actor also identified the lost NFTs. He claims that the stolen NFTs include one from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), another one from the Doodles collection, and the last two from the Mutant Apes collection.
Meanwhile, it might also be necessary to note that Green might not have caught on to the NFT theft early enough. He made the announcement a few hours ago, whereas, blockchain records suggest that the phishing attack took place on May 8. That was about nine days ago.
Records also show that the hacker made over $200,000 from the sale of The Bored Ape alone. And while the Mutant Ape earned them $42,200, the other two NFTs are estimated to be worth a combined $70,000. That is, based on their collections’ floor price.
In all though, the thief has scored 145.5 ETH (approximately $300,000), selling three out of the four NFTs. Hence, OpenSea has now flagged the NFTs alongside Green’s account for suspicious activity.
Growing Popularity of NFTs Among Celebrities
There’s no denying the fact that there has been a massive adoption of NFTs in recent times. Especially with the industry seeing an explosion within the last year. It is this explosive growth of the industry that has drawn the attention of several celebrities including the likes of Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Neymar, Madonna, Seth Green, and many more. But while some have been content with just purchasing these NFTs, others have taken their involvement a notch higher.
Green, for instance, has recently delved into Web3 and even launched a personal NFT collection he calls PizzaBots. That was in partnership with Heavy Metal Magazine. Additionally, there are also reports of him teaming up with DJ Steve Aoki about an NFT-focused animated series.
But just as interests in the NFT space are growing, so are phishing attacks as well. Green’s incident is one of too many such hacks, and hopefully there soon would be an end to the menace.
