ApeCoin’s recent proposal to add two new NFT collections that would build a bridge into the Metaverse for the first time was rejected by the DAO community. The proposal, if accepted, would have created two NFT collections called the Multi-link Ape Coin Armory Club and the Ape Coin Pet Club.
Both NFT collections would have consisted of 20,000 unique tokens each. ApeCoin members would receive an airdrop holding a non-unique version of the NFT. The results of the DAO vote were revealed through an on-chain snapshot vote with over 84% of delegates voting against the proposal, 10% voting in favor, and 6% abstaining. If the project were approved, it would have cost around $168,000. The ApeCoin member who authored this proposal is Aaron Leupp, CEO of PromoAffiliates. Aaron Leupp has done work for clients like Uber, Lyft, and other tech companies in Los Angeles.
The multi-link characteristic of the proposed NFT project would have successfully connected ApeCoin to the metaverse through projects such as Decentraland, Otherside, and the Sandbox. The proposal also hints at these NFT collections appearing in the 3D worlds of other metaverse projects. Images of the NFT collection were featured in the proposal, with notable features like the ApeCoin logo on a shield. Yuga Labs – the company that created the iconic Bored Ape Yacht Club collection – recently auctioned its first Bitcoin-based NFT collection. The auction successfully raised $16.5 million in a period of 24 hours.
The highest bid amount was 7 BTC for one of the NFTs in the Ordinal collection called Twelvefold.
The latter part of 2022 was a period of decline for NFTs after hitting a peak in June last year. Interest in NFTs started to pick up at the start of 2023, reporting trading volumes of $946 million, an increase of 38.5% from December.
