Apple Glasses to Launch Next Year, Will Rival Mac’s Power

According to top analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TFI Asset Management, the upcoming Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) computerized glasses will be as powerful as its Mac computers. The tech giant’s headset, which will use augmented reality to operate, will supposedly launch at the end of next year. Augmented reality features an enhanced version of the real physical world through digital images which are overlaid onscreen.

Kuo, who made this assertion in a key address to investors on Friday, has valid research from his presence in Apple’s supply chain. This has given him a respectable reputation as the go-to guy on the subject matter. Speaking on the Apple glasses, Kuo stated that the device will have huge processing power, which will distinguish it from competitor brands. Furthermore, although previous reports suggested that the Apple glasses would require connectivity to an iPhone, that no longer appears to be so. The device will be able to carry out intensive tasks without the need to connect to an iPhone or a Mac.

Kuo also emphasized that the Apple headset will undoubtedly be more powerful than the current crop of iPhones. According to him, this is extremely necessary because the upcoming device will be executing substantially more advanced computing. As Kuo put it:

“For example, the AR headset requires at least 6-8 optical modules to simultaneously provide continuous video see-through AR services to users.”

Apple Plans for Its Upcoming Glasses to Support Interconnectivity with the iPhone

Even though the glasses are touted as a long-term replacement to iPhones, Kuo says Apple will not play that angle. Instead, the multinational tech giant will position the Apple glasses as an accessory to the iPhone. Kuo says the company prefers this and views it as a better strategy. This is because the strategy would generally foster holistic integration of its product line to the iPhone. Other tech accessories currently marketed as competent complementary devices to the iPhone include the AirPods and Apple Watches.

In October, Apple unveiled more powerful processors, dubbed ‘M1’, for its MacBook computer line. These new processors outperform the outgoing Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) processors previously used by Apple for its products. Furthermore, the M1 processor accomplishes all this while also significantly preserving battery life.

Kuo states that the Apple glasses will rival the M1 chips since the upcoming product is also based on M1 technology. At the moment, there are even newer and more powerful versions of the M1 processor released. These are the M1 Pro and M1 Max, currently used in the new MacBook Pro.

It is still not clear what the final physical design of the new product will look like. Reportedly, there are no fewer than two versions currently in development. One of these is a streamlined device resembling conventional sunglasses, which plans to launch in 2023. The other design style, which may most likely launch earlier, resembles the Oculus Quest virtual reality headsets.
