Speaking to the therapist, a Gen Z client said an old film camera forces the user to take stock of what is happening and focus on the tiny details to take a perfect shot.

As part of the digital trend, old-school gadgets like a shoot-film camera are the new collectibles for Gen Z. A Gen Z could now search his parents’ closets specifically for an old-school point-and-shoot film camera to document memories. According to a therapist, “a film camera is a fun connection to a time they never experienced.”

An American therapist suggests that an out-of-date point-and-shoot film camera could be the perfect gadget to gift a Gen Z this holiday season. He mentioned that the same bulky and outdated Canon Snappy that was in vogue in the 1980s is the new attraction for teenagers.

Unlike Gen Z, Millennials still have memories of life before the advent of the internet, social media, or smartphones. On the other hand, Gen Z, which comprises people born between 1997 and 2012, is purely digitally oriented. Their lives revolve around the internet, and they partially live a digital life. Many Gen Zs are Youtubers, Vloggers, social media influencers, and into all other internet-based careers.

Apple‘s iPhone and other Smartphones generally can take hundreds of pictures and videos. However, an outdated point-and-shoot film camera can only allow a few shots. Hence, owners of film cameras lie the Canon Snappy can only have very few shots. As such, users are strategic with the shots, they take, except they want to keep buying and developing films. Speaking to the therapist, a Gen Z client said an old film camera forces the user to take stock of what is happening and focus on the tiny details to take a perfect shot. The therapist stated:

“Plus, what thy capture is unedited and unfiltered. It’s cool, authentic and real – you can hold it in your hands or frame it on a wall. I can’t imagine a better gift.”

Film Camera Suggestions for a Gen Z in This Holiday Season

Furthermore, the therapist noted their favorite point-and-shoot cameras as inspirations for gifting a Gen Z during this festive period. First is the Kodak M38 35mm Film Camera With Flash. According to the therapist, the camera is $35 and is a classic-easy-to-use gadget. Suggesting that the gift buyer get a camera in the recipient’s favorite color, the therapist mentioned that the Kodak M38 35mm film camera comes in many colors. With a built-in flash which helps with nighttime shooting, the camera also has a wide-angle lens.

Additionally, the therapist recommended the Holga 135BC35mm Bent Corners Film Camera, priced at $59. This camera is vintage and equally gives a soft vignette effect. It also comes with a tripod socket, among other amazing features.

The third point-and-shoot camera on the therapist’s favorite list is the Canon Ivy CLIQ2 Instant Camera Printer. Selling for $79, the camera automatically prints photos onto a peel and stick film. This Canon is very mobile as it is pocket-sizes. Another feature the camera possesses, apart from its instant film, is a large selfie mirror in the front.
