The revolutionary transaction system IBM Z is designed to address the problem of data breach.

IBM has announced a new powerful transaction system called IBM Z capable of handling 12 billion encrypted transactions every day. The system features revolutionary encryption engine that can encrypt data associated with any application, cloud service or database all the time.

IBM Z aims to address the problem of data breach. Most of data is vulnerable to cybercriminals as only four percent of lost or stolen records since 2013 was encrypted.

“The vast majority of stolen or leaked data today is in the open and easy to use because encryption has been very difficult and expensive to do at scale,” said Ross Mauri, General Manager, IBM Z. “We created a data protection engine for the cloud era to have a significant and immediate impact on global data security.”

Encryption is seen as the one of the main factors in reducing the business impact and cost of data breach. However, corporate and cloud data centers very often lack encryption due to the complexity of current solutions for data encryption in x86 environments.

IBM Z represents revolutionary changes in cryptography technology delivering such breakthroughs as pervasive encryption of data and tamper-responding encryption keys.

“The pervasive encryption that is built into, and is designed to extend beyond, the new IBM Z really makes this the first system with an all-encompassing solution to the security threats and breaches we have been witnessing in the past 24 months,” said Peter Rutten, analyst at IDC’s Servers and Compute Platforms Group.

IBM Z automates and streamlines security and compliance processes due to deep integration with IBM Security software. While traditionally auditors manually inspect and validate the security of databases, applications and systems, IBM Z allows significantly reducing the complexity and cost of compliance for auditors. The system also offers audit trail showing if and when permissioned insiders accessed data.

IBM Z’s industry-leading cryptography technology is used in new blockchain services in centers in Dallas, London, Frankfurt, Sao Paolo, Tokyo and Toronto.

“The powerful combination of IBM Z encryption and secure containers differentiates IBM Blockchain services on the cloud by supporting the trust models new blockchain networks require,” said Marie Wieck, general manager, IBM Blockchain. “Enterprise clients also benefit from the ease of use making management transparent to the application and the user.”

Transparent container pricing

IBM offers three Container Pricing models for IBM Z:

  • New microservices and applications that allow customers benefiting from security-rich on-premises enterprise systems in real time. Clients can now collocate applications to optimize qualities of services that are priced competitively with public cloud and on-premises platforms;
  • Application development and test with the freedom can triple capacity of all development environments on z/OS with no need to increase monthly license charge;
  • Payment systems pricing based on the business metric of payments volume a bank processes, not the available capacity. Thus customers feel more flexible to innovate affordably in a competitive environment, particularly in the fast-growing Instant Payment segment.

The number of transactions financial companies and banks process every second reaches thousands. This makes the efficient handling of transaction data today even more important than ever.
