According to the invitation sent to journalists, the event where the Windows update is to be presented would be held virtually at 11 a.m ET, on June 24.
A statement emanating from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) on Wednesday has revealed the readiness of the company to unveil a new version of its Windows operating system on June 24. This development is coming weeks after Satya Nadella, the firm’s CEO, had hinted to the public about this development.
Microsoft (MSFT) stock is currently 0.21% down in the pre-market, trading at $246.77.
According to Microsoft, its popular Windows operating system is responsible for 14% of its total revenue. The Microsoft Windows 10, which became available over a half-decade ago, has regularly seen at least two updates every year, with its most recent update coming only last month.
Last week, Nadella had said:
“We will create more opportunity for every Windows developer today and welcome every creator who is looking for the most innovative, new, open platform to build and distribute and monetize applications.”
Per a CNBC report, the Bill Gates-founded company had announced it won’t ship Windows 10X, which was originally designed “for dual-screen devices such as the Surface Neo.” The report also added that the firm stated that “instead of bringing a product called Windows 10X to market in 2021 like we originally intended, we are leveraging learnings from our journey thus far and accelerating the integration of key foundational 10X technology into other parts of Windows and products at the company.”
The shift of focus for the Windows 10X to single screen devices was to “create a stronger competitor to Chrome OS.” The firm plans to achieve this by bringing some of the features on the 10X into Windows 10.
Nadella shares his enthusiasm about this development saying “Soon, we will share one of the most significant updates of Windows of the past decade to unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators.” He also went on to reveal that he has been using the new update for a while now. In his words, “I’ve been self-hosting it over the past several months, and I’m incredibly excited about the next generation of Windows.”
Interestingly, the new Windows update, tagged Sun Valley, will come with features that are in tandem with the growth in the technological space. According to available information, the update will have a more modern outlook, and rounded corners coming to components such as the Start menu. Not only that, “Microsoft could revamp its Windows app store, which would allow developers to use third-party commerce systems, alongside the Sun Valley update.”
According to the invitation sent to journalists, the June 24 event would be held virtually at 11 a.m ET. And it is expected that the CEO, alongside Panos Panay, who is Microsoft’s chief product officer, would be gracing the event.
