Hong Kong-based game software company and venture capital startup Animoca Brands Corporation Ltd has partnered with Brinc, a venture capital and accelerator firm, to launch the Guild Accelerator Program. The goal of the program is to support the play-to-earn (P2E) guild ecosystem worldwide. To do that, the program will provide as much as $30 million over the next two years.

Guild Program by Animoca Brands and Brinc

According to Animoca Brands and Brinc, the Guild Accelerator program will first focus on those projects that commit to sustainability. It implies supporting and giving back to player/scholar communities, having a lower physical footprint, developing energy-efficient proof-of-stake (PoS) protocols as well as side chains. Besides, the program will fund up to $500,000 per guild.

Brinc CEO Manav Gupta commented:

“Web3-enabled guilds provide an onramp for the future of earning in a way that Web2 and traditional industries never could. The technologies, principles and business models developed in gaming that have enabled true digital asset ownership and utilisation (with aligned stakeholders) can be leveraged across all future areas of jobs and work.”

He further added:

“Guilds can help transform education, skill development, agriculture, R&D and almost any industry where access to tools and assets historically prevented anyone with time to innovate, up-skill and thus earn a living. We’re excited to meet founding teams that challenge the way we think about the applications and impact of guilds across all industries.”

The Guild Accelerator Program will run on Launchpad Luna. Brinc and Animoca rolled out this accelerator rolled out last year. Applications are open until the end of February.

Richard Robinson, entrepreneur-in-residence at Animoca Brands, will be in charge of the program. Brendan Wong, founder of Avocado Guild, Saruboti Sasuke, head of partnerships for YGG, and Howard Xu, co-founder of the Vietnam-based guild Ancient8, will mentor the program.

Play-to-Earn as a Dominant Trend

The play-to-earn concept has become a mainstream game model with the growth of metaverse and the popularity of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Its prospering started in 2021 and has continued now.

Play-to-earn games rely on blockchain technology and allow you to earn items while playing the games in the form of crypto tokens, NFT), and through a process known as staking. Many of these games will reward you time by offering you one of the digital assets above.

Aavegotchi, Axie Infinity, CryptoBlades, The Sandbox, Decentraland are the most popular play-to-earn games, to name a few. For example, in the game world of Axie Infinity, you earn tokens called SLPs, which you can sell on exchanges for fiat or stablecoins. In Decentraland, you can sell and buy virtual plots or lands.
