Bill Gates claims that coronavirus panic is irrelevant and urges to be positive. Gates believes that a matured country can overcome it in 6 to 10 weeks. Coronavirus cure may be available in 18 months or earlier, he says.

On Wednesday, Bill Gates claimed that people should not panic during the coronavirus spreading. He joined the AMA session on Reddit, and he did that six times before. One of the Redditors wished to ask him: what is the possible time of quarantine? Gates went into explanations of his position:

“If a country does a good job with testing and ‘shut down’ then within 6-10 weeks they should see very few cases and be able to open back up.

The current phase has a lot of cases in rich countries. With the right actions including the testing and social distancing (which I call ‘shut down’) within 2-3 months, the rich countries should have avoided high levels of infection. I worry about all the economic damage but even worse will be how this will affect the developing countries who cannot do the social distancing the same way as rich countries and whose hospital capacity is much lower.”

Answering the questions about the coronavirus cure, Gates claims it may take up to 18 months:

“The first vaccines we get will go to health care workers and critical workers. This could happen before 18 months if everything goes well but we and [coronavirus task force member Anthony] Fauci and others are being careful not to promise this when we are not sure. The work is going at full speed”

Gates told the public that scientists are working on the personal test kits that people can use at home. Special delivery will bring the testers directly to the Americans. During many years, Bill and Melinda Gates are revolving in the scientific sphere. Dealing with medical problems, vaccines, libraries supply, charity and more. Several days ago, Bill left the Microsoft board of directors. He also left Berkshire Hathway. All to be more focused on charity and science.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Warned about Ebola-like Viruses

It is interesting to note that the Foundation is issuing materials on virus spreading. Back in 2015, Bill Gates gave an insightful TED talk, outlining the virus dynamics. Gates prepared a PDF report full of data for the New England Journal of Medicine. There, he claims the Ebola outbreak is something that will repeat over time. Foundation took part in creation of a Center of Epidemic Preparedness. One of the users asked Gates about the nationwide testing. He responds that in the U.S., the system is not well established yet:

“The testing in the US is not organized yet. In the next few weeks, I hope the government fixes this by having a website you can go to to find out about home testing and kiosks. Things are a bit confused about this right now. In Seattle, the U of W is providing thousands of tests per day but no one is connected to a national tracking system.

Whenever there is a positive test it should be seen to understand where the disease is and whether we need to strengthen the social distancing. South Korea did a great job on this including digital contact tracing.”

Bill calls for the creation of a special website, where people can dig info and complain to get help. Without the unified system of complaints, Bill says, they don’t have the exact list of demanded things. The full AMA with Bill Gates can be read here
