While Meta doesn’t provide official data on how many VR headsets were sold, the technology is yet to present a mainstream adoption as predicted by the company.

Christmas proved to be an amazing holiday for Meta as its Oculus virtual reality app was the most downloaded application on the charts. The Oculus Virtual Reality, a popular VR game, is played with the help of the Oculus VR app, available on Apple‘s App Store.

While the App store ranking is not the most precise, they provide decent statistics to predict which application is currently on the rise. In addition to this, it also helps decode the trending technologies among the customers. People like to buy electronic gadgets for their families during Christmas, and the scoreboard helps navigate through the trend.

However, this is the first time Meta’s app has been placed at the highest position for a VR app. Mark Zuckerberg, the famous Chief Executive Officer of Meta, declared an investment of at least $10 Billion to kickstart and create the metaverse. The essence of this project is a world created in virtual reality, which will become the convention for social networking, gaming, and more importantly, work, in the future.

Zuckerberg has been very involved in the latest project on metaverse. So much so that the company decided to rebrand Facebook’s name to Meta this fall. His alignment towards the metaverse was one of the many instances of the world shifting to virtual reality.

Gaming company Roblox has been supporting and advocating the creation of a metaverse way before this become famous. In March this year, the company went public at an approximately $40 Billion valuation. The investors are now pursuing similar metaverse shares, while companies like Nvidia and AMD are leading the chatter. These companies manufacture chips that operate the metaverses.

As of today, the VR headsets are still way behind Zuckerberg’s vision of the Metaverse. While that is true, Meta’s expanded clientele can provide enough data to the company on how the public uses VR in their daily lives. The VR users can furnish the companies with feedback on what exactly the audience would want in their VR experience. Since the technology is still at a very early stage, an intricate feedback system is vital.

While Meta doesn’t provide official data on how many Oculus VR headsets were sold, the technology is yet to present a mainstream adoption as predicted by the company.

A top-selling gaming product doesn’t mean all is well with a company. In the past, Amazon, Google, and Fitbit have won Christmas with their massive sales during the season. However, this has failed to be any kind of game-changer for them. For the time being, Meta’s holiday triumph is a significant indicator that the company is on its way to creating the metaverse as promised.
