As Dubai emerges from the pandemic and is poised to be the global meeting place for blockchain and future tech, the 19th global edition of the World Blockchain Summit hosted over 1500 crypto influencers, investors and government delegates. Some of the prominent names such as H.E. Tomasz Zaleski, Navin Gupta, Sandeep Nailwal and Samson Mow and many others were a part of the summit.
The 19th edition of Trescon’s World Blockchain Summit in Dubai, held under the patronage of The Private Office of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, successfully hosted over 1500 global crypto and blockchain influencers, investors, policymakers and media, among others, on 13 and 14 October at JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai.

The conference attracted prominent voices in the crypto and blockchain ecosystem including H.E. Tomasz Zaleski, Chairman of The Private Office of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, UAE; Samson Mow, Chief Strategy Officer of Blockstream, Canada; Sandeep Nailwal, Co-Founder of Polygon India; Navin Gupta, MD for South Asia and MENA region of Ripple; Omar Rahim, MENA Director of Binance, UK; Nick Spanos, Bitcoin Pioneer; Felix Mago, Co-Founder of Space & Dash Next, Thailand; Jess Davis, Founder and CEO Uberstate Inc; Serguei Popov, Co-Founder of IOTA Foundation; to name a few and actors like Leonel and Marco Salamanca, commonly known as ‘The Cousins’ from Breaking Bad.
WBS Dubai had a cohesive agenda that essentially explored multiple facets of blockchain and cryptocurrency in the global context and for Dubai’s blockchain ecosystem. Some of the major topics of discussion at the conference included, how to capture long-term value in crypto finance; what is the state of blockchain and digital assets today; the future with the decentralized monetary system; blockchain and its impact on business and investing; metaverse; unleashing the power of DeFi in the real-world; accelerating the adoption of digital currencies; and much more.
Navin Gupta, Managing Director of Ripple for South Asia and MENA Region, focused on the ‘Future of Payments’ during his keynote. He gave an overview of the current payment business system and compared it with the future payment system that’s going to come with the ongoing tech disruption. He said,
“Companies will be able to accomplish greater output and growth by increasing the velocity of money, and blockchain will assist businesses in executing that.”
Sandeep Nailwal, Co-Founder, Polygon, stated,
“With the current NFT boom, I like to refer to NFTs and DeFi as the trojan horse of the crypto industry for the real-world adoption. The speed at which the brands and institutions we are currently onboarding is absolutely phenomenal.”
Omar Rahim, MENA Director, Binance, stated,
“There will be winners and losers in the race to adopt blockchain technology; countries that rely on traditional space will miss out on many opportunities, while countries with a strong presence in new technologies will be able to wield far more power as a result of the rapid adoption of blockchain technology.”
The objective of #WBSDubai 2021 was manifold – to provide a platform to amalgamate ideas with creativity, brainstorm, develop action plans, groom startups and lead projects that have the potential to become popular brands in the crypto world.
The event recognized Amber Group as the Crypto Finance Service Provider of the year 2021; Revuto as the Fastest Growing Consumer Product in Crypto of the year 2021 and Luna PR as the Best Crypto PR Firm of the year 2021.
It also felicitated the regional Startup World Cup winner, Autonomy Network that is selected to fly to San Francisco to compete with 30 other contestants to win US$ 1 million in the finale.
The summit also had featured a real-time live Twitter contest and the winner of the contest, Spantale, was awarded Bitcoins worth US$ 1,000.
Mithun Shetty, CEO, Trescon stated,
“For the past few years, we’ve all marvelled at the enormous potential of blockchain and cryptocurrencies to disrupt legacy systems, and we’ve seen a steady increase in the pace and scale of this disruption. Blockchain and crypto tech is no longer an obscure tech bubble. It’s becoming a mainstream tech world, and the tech industry is exploring the tech in all directions. So, what does all this mean for blockchain and crypto tech in the future? The tech world is in a constant state of evolution and disruption. Even amid this tech boom, we don’t know what tomorrow holds. But we do know that blockchain and crypto tech is poised to take on a much larger role in our lives, and we hope that the World Blockchain Summit has helped our guests with the resources and partnerships they need to understand the technology better.”
