The conflicting information about the source of the COVID-19 left social media users room for speculation and conspiracies of which Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Philanthropist, and Anthony Fauci, US Infectious Disease expert became the main subjects.
According to Bill Gates, this comes as a surprise as he least expected people to drag his name into those “Crazy Conspiracy Theories” on social media.
“Nobody would have predicted that I and Dr. Fauci would be so prominent in these evil theories,” he said.
Bill Gates has been one of the most active people who have risen to the occasion and supported with their resources to fight the global pandemic. Through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, he has donated up to $1.75 billion to support the global response team of the COVID-19 virus. Some of this has been used in the making of the vaccine, diagnostic and potential treatments.
Bill Gates has also been on various forums talking about the pandemic and making some predictions forcing people to accuse him of having something to do with it as he mostly talks about the virus than some experts.
Some of the popular conspiracies that link Bill Gates and Fauci to the virus include “creating the virus to take advantage of the vaccines to insert trackable microchips into people, trying to control people, and making profits from the pandemic”.
The conspiracy theories are uncountable on the internet with so much misinformation on people attempting to fight the virus as well as its origin. Bill Gates in the interview was amazed that people believe these conspiracies. He, therefore, assures that people are going to get educated about this in the next year.
“We’re going to have to get educated about this over the next year and understand .. how does it change peoples’ behavior and how should we have minimized this?” he said.
Bill Gates also lauded the collaboration of Fauci and Francis Collins, Head of the US National Institute of Health. According to him, they are smart and wonderful people, and he looks forward to them speaking the truth and working effectively under the new administration.
He expressed his excitement about the team selected by Joe Biden, the New US President to tackle the health issues. Not taking anything away from the effort of the former US President Donald Trump, Gates felt that they were the only sane people in the government. He also lauded the decision to rejoin the World Health Organization.
Bill Gates has not been the only target of the COVID-19 conspiracies. It was earlier said that the US military exported COVID-19 to China. Other social media posts also linked the COVID-19 to the 5G network while others also claimed it was created as a biological weapon.
