Automobili Lamborghini, an Italian luxury auto manufacturer is getting into the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) space in grand style with the launch of a limited NFT collection. As unveiled by the company, the entry into the world of NFTs is via an artwork that is accessible via the Lamborghini Space Key, an exclusive project developed with an artist whose identity is yet to be disclosed.

The Lamborghini venture into the exclusive world of digital collectibles takes its origin from a research experiment involving a 3D printed Carbon Fiber that was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019. After returning from the space station, the composite material was then used to create the Space Key.

There are 5 space keys in all, and each has an underlying artwork that is yet to be unveiled. The Space Keys are designed with a QR Code on the backside which is billed to serve as the access to open the NFT piece.

“Innovation is a deeply rooted part of the Lamborghini DNA,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman, and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “As a leading company for carbon fiber composite materials within the automotive sector, we pushed boundaries two and a half years ago with the joint research project in space. Now entering the metaverse is again proof of Lamborghini always setting sail for new horizons. The NFT world has been calling to us, and we are excited about engaging with this very passionate and innovative community.”

Lamborghini is a brand that is synonymous with luxury as the cars it churns out cost an average of $200,000. Used mostly by celebrities, sports icons, and High Networth Individuals, the name it has established for itself is expected to give its NFT push a significant valuation boost. Until more details about the mint or auction are unveiled, attempts by collectors to get their hands on the collection should be expected to be a frantic race for the super-rich.

Lamborghini: the New Auto Brand Embracing NFT

Prior to this time, many automobile companies have been making significant headways in incorporating blockchain technology into their operations. More specifically, a small number of these global car manufacturers have ventured into the metaverse through NFT offerings as customized in their own unique ways.

Prominent examples of these include the NFT collection launched by German brand, Audi back in August last year. Porsche has also reportedly auctioned a car sketch as an NFT, while also floating an NFT platform Fanzone for trading cards per an earlier Coinspeaker report. Beyond automakers, different companies around the world are beginning to explore avenues to recreate experiences that can connect more of their fans, and clients through the emerging world of NFTs.
