Andy Jassy will take over from Bezos in the third quarter of this year and his would-be predecessor says Jassy will become an “outstanding leader” to the company.

When Andy Jassy began his career at Amazon in 1997 after he had graduated from Harvard Business School, and earned his first degree from the prestigious Harvard University, little did he know that he was going to someday be able to climb to the peak of the company and superintend all of its business operations. But that is the reality now as Andy Jassy is set to take over from Jeff Bezos as CEO of the third most valuable company in the United States, Amazon. Jeff Bezos, in a letter to the company’s workers said he was going to be taking up the executive chairman role.

In the last fifteen years, Jassy has played an active role in turning Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) into a highly profitable technology company. He oversaw the creation of one of the company’s top products that had now come to dominate the cloud infrastructure market.

Bezos had made Jassy the CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2016 where he had overseen the production of products like Amazon Quantum Ledger Database and Amazon Managed Blockchain that were crucial to the development of the company. These products were also being tapped by other institutions who depended on the tech giants products for the efficiency of their own products or services.

The 53-year old Jassy is also a member of Bezos’ elite group of executives that are called the S-team. Bezos depends on the team for advice and also consults with them to make key business decisions.

Jassy has enjoyed considerable success in his time with Amazon as he has been able to attract different businesses and organizations to the products of the firm. His foresight in providing storage and compute capacity for small businesses first before expanding to take on bigger clients helped the firm have a healthy dose of lead over its other competitors like Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Google LLC (NASDAQ: GOOGL). Presently, AWS is a foremost leader in the cloud computing industry and has an enormous advantage over its competitors.

Recently, the firm has also diversified its portfolio to include quite a number of different services like databases, analytics tools, content delivery and machine learning software. This has made the firm a huge rival of Oracle Corporation (NYSE: ORCL) who Jassy slammed for its practice of locking customers into painfully long and costly contracts.

He would take over from Bezos in the third quarter of this year and his would-be predecessor, Bezos, says he will make an “outstanding leader” to the company.
