For two days – April 3rd and April 4th – South Korea’s capital city Seoul hosted a major event called Deconomy which is an international blockchain forum wherein organizers had made every attempt to bring its audiences the “brightest entrepreneurs, thought leaders, investors, developers, academic and policy groups, and blockchain enthusiasts” to discuss in detail about some of the biggest topics in the blockchain space.
At the event, Craig S. Wright was also present who is the notoriously popular personality who self-acclaimed back in 2016 that he himself in the Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. Although Wright was scheduled to speak with Bitcoin Cash proponent Roger Ver and Blockstream CSO Samson Mow, on a panel discussion entitled “Bitcoin, Controversy over Principle,” the program changed later and so he was he was presented before the panel.
The sad thing that could happen to Wright was that his critic and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin was also presented who threw some hard pointing questions during the Q&A session explicitly called Wright as a “fraud” and “crazy”. He said: “Given that he makes so many non-sequiturs and mistakes, why is this fraud allowed to speak at this conference?” Buterin was soon supported by the members of the audience who applauded him for his remarks.
Buterin and Wright have been seen locking horns with each other many times over the contrasting views on Bitcoin Cash. Well, at one end Wright is a big proponent of the Bitcoin derivative, Ethereum mogul Buterin has been a heavy critic of the same. After Buterin’s comments at the event, Wright fired back suggesting Ether be an inferior currency. He said: “Vitalik has one issue… When we demonstrate what BCH can do, he knows that ETH will wither and die.”
He further added in one of his tweets that “….I broke Vitalek…… He is a twig.. must remember to be gentle next time….”
Buterin has remained always skeptical of Wright’s claims to be the Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto and more importantly after Wright failed to provide the proof of his claims, Buterin has repeatedly asked him to “cut the lies and drop the claims.”
However, Wright was not just subject to criticism from Buterin during the event. While talking directly about the Bitcoin’s ongoing scalability development of Lightning Network, Wright said that “LN work is as hard as breaking a discrete log.” Further while discussing the concepts of “honest mining” and “selfish mining” Wright got technical in his address saying that “gamma can be less than zero.”
OmiseGO advisor Joseph Poon, who has also contributed to creating the Lightning Network, soon caught the tongue of Wright and commented from the audience saying: “I wrote the lightning network paper, and I straight up don’t understand a word of your presentation.”
