The launch of MetaMask SDK in the Unity Asset Store will allow developers to connect their games to the MetaMask wallet.

On Tuesday, February 28, leading game development platform Unity announced that they had tapped into Web3 while unveiling a new “decentralization” category in its online storefront. The Unity Asset Store will offer vetted solutions supporting developers interested in the technology and willing to enable decentralization in gaming.

In this context particularly, decentralization reflects the models of ownership which will allow players to create, earn and get access to in-game resources which they can trade with other players. Also, a dedicated page on the Asset Store will allow interested developers to find verified solutions in order to manage digital assets, build on blockchain networks, set up smart contracts, and much more.

As part of the toolkit, Unity shall be offering support for 13 different blockchain-based software developer kits (SDKs). This includes chains and products such as AIKON ORE ID, Algorand, Altura, Aptos Labs, ImmutableX, Dapper Labs, MetaMask, Infura (ConsenSys), Nefta, Pocket Full of Quarters, Tezos, Solana, and Truffle.

With the decentralized storefront of the Unity Asset Store, developers could also be able to build blockchain techs such as metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to boost gameplay experiences.

MetaMask SDK and Game Engine Unity

MetaMask also shared the news with much enthusiasm. It noted that the launch of MetaMask SDK in the Unity Asset Store will allow developers to connect their games to the MetaMask wallet. This will allow users to interact within the game itself. This development is likely to unlock a whole new experience of Gameplay going ahead. In its Twitter thread, MetaMask noted:

“The gaming industry is rapidly growing, and the web3 gaming sector is attracting significant investment. With one million users connected to web3 games across 48 blockchains daily, the potential for growth is huge! The MetaMask SDK brings the power of self-custody to experiences across the web, on desktop and mobile.”

MetaMask further added that its Web3 Early Adopter Program will offer a $100K grant and guidance to help developers transition into Web3. This would unlock major opportunities for growth and innovation in the industry.

For a long time, Web3 developers have been eager for Unity to enter into the business with its own tools. Last year in March 2022, Web3 gaming platform Joyride secured $14 million in fundraising supporting developers to build their games on Unity.
