Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z have pledged to give the four-member team complete autonomy to decide on the operational direction of the Bitcoin Blind Trust.
Jack Dorsey, the Chief Executive Officer of payments services provider Block Inc (NYSE: SQ) has unveiled a 4-member board for the Bitcoin (BTC) Blind Trust he set up with music superstar Jay-Z back in February. As announced by Dorsey earlier in the year, he and Jay-Z pledged 500 BTC to a new endowment to build out the Bitcoin community in Africa and India.
JAY-Z/@S_C_ and I are giving 500 BTC to a new endowment named ₿trust to fund #Bitcoin development, initially focused on teams in Africa & India. It‘ll be set up as a blind irrevocable trust, taking zero direction from us. We need 3 board members to start: https://t.co/L4mRBryMJe
The call for board members into the board drew thousands of applications as many innovators within the African region and India vied to become a part of the initiative. After months of deliberations on who to add to the board, Dorsey announced four names from over 7000 applications received.
The members announced include Carla Kirk-Cohen from South Africa, and Abubakar Nur Khalil, Obi Nwosu, and Ojoma Ochai all of whom come from Nigeria.
“I’m so grateful for you all and so inspired,” Dorsey unveiled in a recent tweet. “They’ll now work towards defining the operating principles as they think about how to best distribute the 500 bitcoin towards development efforts.”
While the team is set to get to work, Dorsey said he plans to update the community with any account for the trust that the board members will come up with.
Who Are the People Jack Dorsey Christened for the Bitcoin (BTC) Trust?
Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z have pledged to give the four-member team complete autonomy to decide on the operational direction of the Bitcoin Blind Trust. This complete confidence is based on the pedigree of each of them in the cryptocurrency ecosystem thus far.
A casual glimpse through their Twitter profiles gives an insight into the role each of them is playing with Abubakar Nur Khalil branded as a Bitcoin Core Contributor and the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Recursive Capital. While Carla Kirk-Cohen is helping to train the next generation of African BTC developers, Obi Nwosu is a prominent advocate of Bitcoin, and Ojoma Ochai is a backer of innovative initiatives known to promote Spiral to her followers.
The credentials of the Bitcoin Blind Trust board members clearly separated them from the pack and each of them has expressed optimism for the work ahead.
Thanks @jack and the team. Super excited to be a part of this vision, organisation, and mission…
