Breakpoint will serve as a stepping stone for further uniting Solana’s community of developers who are coding smart contracts in Rust to build the network’s next generation of decentralized applications (dApps).

Solana will hold the first major conference in the network’s history November 7-10 in Lisbon, Portugal. The inaugural conference, Breakpoint, will feature a gathering of influential names behind Solana projects that have launched or will soon launch on the Layer 1 network that first came to life in 2019.

The sold-out conference is scheduled at a time when Solana’s token price has shot through the roof, and all eyes are on Solana as it recently entered the Top 5 crypto rankings by market cap. Expectations have been set incredibly high for the blockchain that has demonstrated capabilities of processing 65,000 transactions per second (TPS) with a block time of 400 milliseconds, and the excitement leading up to Breakpoint as the opening ceremonies are less than a week away.

Many big names in crypto are slated to attend Breakpoint including Solana Co-Founders Anatoly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal, the Co-Founder and CEO of Circle, Jeremy Allaire, the CEO of FTX and Alameda Research, Sam Bankman-Fried, the co-founder of Chainlink, Sergey Nazarov, and the co-founder of CoinGecko, Bobby Ong, among dozens of other participants.

Breakpoint Unites Solana’s Rust Developer Community for the First Time

Solana is in the early stages of building a Rust support community where newbies can learn from seasoned pros about writing smart contracts in the language that is widely used outside of the blockchain space. As one Redditor recently found out when posting on the subreddit r/rust, there are currently few resources available for anyone looking to hone their Rust skills for building smart contracts.

Breakpoint will serve as a stepping stone for further uniting Solana’s community of developers who are coding smart contracts in Rust to build the network’s next generation of decentralized applications (dApps). As part of the conference, Marius Ciubotariu, the Project Lead of Hubble Protocol, will be sharing his time and expertise to hold a highly anticipated workshop focusing on the development of smart contracts using Rust.

Marius has gained over seven years of experience in FinTech as a programmer and team leader with Bloomberg, and he is building on Solana to define the cutting edge of smart contracts written in Rust. Needless to say, Marius’ command of Rust combined with his track record for developing financial products over the last decade makes him an outstanding addition to Solana’s DeFi ecosystem and developer community.

The Benefits of Building Protocols in Rust on Solana

Rust has been voted the world’s most beloved programming language for six years in a row, and 86% of the programmers surveyed in 2021 put Rust at the top of their list. The language has built a reputation for its performance, speed, and security, which makes it an excellent language for the purposes of blockchain-based financial protocols that will handle millions of dollars in assets.

In addition to the capabilities Rust brings to smart contracts on the network, Solana’s decision to use Rust as its primary coding language has the secondary effect of filtering out the copy-paste projects written in Solidity that have proliferated on EVM compatible blockchains as of late. Consequently, the practice of recycling code in multiple DeFi projects has reportedly led to an uptick in security breaches for the platforms reusing these codes.

Since Rust has been used for years by developers at Google, Facebook, and Amazon, blockchain developers can access a well-stocked Rust toolkit that allows coders to place more of their focus on smart contract logic. This will hopefully mean that the lightning-fast speed, security, and scalability of Solana’s network combined with the speed, security, and time-saving capabilities of coding in Rust should spur a new wave of DeFi 2.0 innovations in the near future.

Breakpoint Sets Stage for Solana’s Breakout Community

A breakpoint is generally defined as a moment of change, and, in tennis vocabulary, a breakpoint occurs when a receiving player is about to win a game against their opponent’s service advantage. Both of these definitions fit the Solana narrative well, as the network is poised to capture a large portion of the blockchain market with its insanely high speed and throughput.

Blockchain gaming and DeFi are on a pace to break into the mainstream within the next several years. Charging forward at the front of this movement, Solana is leading the way towards the mass adoption of blockchain technology by providing a network that operates with incredibly low fees combined with ridiculously fast speeds compared to other Layer 1 blockchains available today.

Solana has already captured the number three spot for total value locked (TVL) in DeFi on its blockchain with over $13 billion in TVL. Considering Solana is still very much in the early stages of developing DeFi protocols on its network, and considering Solana is hosting its first-ever conference this November, the future looks incredibly bright for the Solana community as it heads to Lisbon to meet up at Breakpoint.
