The determination to float products that will be able to provide an interactive search interface for users has been cited by the Alphabet CEO as a major opportunity to be tapped into.

Sundar Pichai Sundar Pichai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American multinational tech giant, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has hinted that the company is working on a conversational chat Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution that can be integrated into its Google search engine tool. While Pichai confirmed this in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the exact timeline for the launch remains unknown.

The advent of conversational-style AI applications is changing the approach of tech giants to their legacy offerings. The success of ChatGPT from OpenAI has further intensified the need to float related products to help maintain market dominance.

Tech rival Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) was very swift in forming an alliance with OpenAI to get access to its proprietary technology which it used to launch the Bing AI product. Besides the integration on its own search engine, Microsoft has also been making targeted moves to integrate the chatbot in Microsoft 365, a move that will now bring AI innovation into its core products.

Google was not going to sit back and watch this innovation slip by it and as such, it released its own ChatGPT competitor dubbed Bard. Bard did not meet the expectations of both Google and the public when it was launched, setting back the company in its bid to float a truly functional product that will help it uphold its status as the biggest AI user.

In reality, Alphabet has always been using AI and Large Language Models (LLM), the tech stack that is powering ChatGPT. Although the usage of the LLM tech has been limited to the back end and with the confirmation that Pichai shared, users will now be able to interact more directly with the tech in a conversational style moving forward.

Alphabet CEO Recognizes the Opportunity in AI

The determination to float products that will be able to provide an interactive search interface for users has been cited by the Alphabet CEO as a major opportunity to be tapped into.

“Will people be able to ask questions to Google and engage with LLMs in the context of search? Absolutely,” he said. “The opportunity space, if anything, is bigger than before.”

The development of Artificial Intelligence solutions accounts for one of the most focal pushes for tech founders in the United States and beyond moving forward. As reported earlier by Coinspeaker, Andrew Bosworth, the Chief Technology Officer of Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META) confirmed that he and the company’s CEO as well as other top officials are keenly focused on building the company’s AI product.

Unlike what Alphabet and Microsoft are aiming at, the AI product from Meta Platforms will be targeted at every aspect of the company’s operations with the first of the commercial products set to be targeted at ad buyers.

In all, there is an AI wave that is blowing, which every tech outfit including the browser platforms, Opera has tapped right in.
