According to Opera, its AI capabilities will enable users of its platform to summarize the content on a particular webpage for convenience.

Norwegian multinational technology company and a subsidiary of Kunlun Tech Limited, Opera Ltd (NASDAQ: OPRA) has announced it is moving into the Artificial Intelligence (AI) generative space. As revealed by the tech giant, the new AI generative feature will be integrated into the web browser and content apps.

The AI generative space has become the new buzz in the digital economy with the advent of ChatGPT, the new virtual assistant developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT has garnered more than 100 million users in less than 2 months since it was introduced and has reshaped the capabilities of what is possible as far as content generation is concerned.

The new push into the AI space is an affirmation of Opera’s long-standing approach to bringing its users the best of what the internet world has to offer. Prior to this time, the browser has granted its users access to Instagram, Tiktok, and WhatsApp as it looks to build enhanced engagement across the board.

“In more than 25 years of our company’s history, we have always been at the forefront of browser innovation. Whether inventing browser tabs or providing our users with built-in access to generative AI tools, we always push the limits of what’s possible on the web,” said Song Lin, Co-CEO of Opera. “Following the mass interest in generative AI tools, we believe it’s now time for browsers to step up and become the gateway to an AI-powered web”.

According to Opera, its AI capabilities will enable users of its platform to summarize the content on a particular webpage for convenience. In the information age, the Web is filled with a lot of content that users might get lost in. The new “Shorten” tab attached to the URL will help to summarize the page for the user.

Opera Augmentation with AI

As one of the most used browsers in the world, Opera and its content app brandish a number of unique functionalities to enhance user experience. However, the new AI integration will help in augmenting all of what it has been building on for years to give its users additional value.

According to Opera, users will be able to have access to ChatGPT as well as Bard, the soon-to-be-released AI tool from Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL). Besides this, its own AI tool will help to complement the offering across the board.

“It is Opera’s belief that with AI solutions springing up both for text, image, and audio generation and in countless other forms, we are at the brink of a new era of creativity on the Web. That’s why we’re reshaping the browser to allow our users to tap into all these resources and to unfold their full potential in the best possible way,” said Krystian Kolondra, EVP of PC Browsers and Gaming at Opera.

Opera shares on the NASDAQ are up 7.75% at the time of writing to $8.20.
