Digital River Adds Bitcoin Payment Option for Merchants

E-commerce payment processor Digital River is now allowing its small to medium-sized merchants accept bitcoin through its SWREG solution.
Digital River Inc., a leading global provider of Commerce-as-a-Service solutions, has announced that now bitcoin is available as a new payment option to its users.
The offering is now opened to merchants using the Minnesota-based company’s SWREG solution for small and medium sized enterprises.
Moreover, Digital River provider reported that the main idea is to allow their customers to enjoy the benefits of the savings bitcoin can bring to international transactions.
The company said: “Bitcoin will now be available along with other international payment options, such as credit and debit cards, wire transfers, bank transfers and third-party wallets.”
Digital River Inc. was founded in 1994 and it is one of the initial online payments businesses to engage with the bitcoin community.
Furthermore, the company is also offering such things as site design, development, web store hosting, order management and fraud prevention, as well as other services.
Digital River has such notable clients as provider of personal computer and tablets accessories Logitech, subscription music streaming service Spotify, Internet security software provider Trend Micro and game developer Ubisoft, and others.
Digital River formed a partership with Coinbase after announcing that it would integrate bitcoin payments into its services in 2014.
Souheil Badran, vice president and general manager at Digital River, specified: “We see it as something that is here to stay, even if people are seeing it as just a payment method in general. But for me it is a game-changer.”
Tom Peterson, executive vice president and general manager of commerce at Digital River, said that now the customers can easily use the benefits of bitcoin.
Mr. Peterson pointed out that merchants who have used bitcoin payments can now avoid the currency’s price volatility through Digital River, saying:
“This business model creates an opportunity for our customers to offer payment solutions that may be in earlier stages of adoption in their domestic markets.”

In addition, Digital River did not say anything about any fees it would charge businesses for accepting bitcoin transactions.

By securing the latest regulatory approval, Coinbase would be able to offer its eligible customers access to regulated perpetual futures contracts on the Coinbase Advanced platform.
According to PayPal, its system could use any currency. The company has already added numerous blockchain-related features to its platform, including the MetaMask Wallet, PayPal USD, and Ethereum.
