Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) has unveiled the rebranded versions of its flagship Model S electric vehicles, with touch-ups to the Model X brands also. The EV unicorn made this surprising revelation of the finesse in its design capabilities in its Q4 earnings announcement on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, yesterday TSLA stock lost 3.32% to close at $835.43. Now, in the pre-market, it is 0.72% down again.
The upgrade made to both the exterior and the interior of the Model S is the first of its kind since the car was launched way back in 2012. The redesign on the exterior according to a report by CNET features a new bumper with a slightly different air intake from the old version. The rear of the car also got a retouched air diffuser with 19-inch and 21-inch wheel designs. The exterior was finished in white with the paint color palette being retained as white.
Tesla’s superiority in auto designs was reflected in the new interior of the Model S. The new version now boasts of horizontal 17-inch screen orientation, an upgrade from its earlier portrait orientation. The screen according to Tesla is a high-powered gaming computer with 10 Teraflops of processing power.
While the S retains the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster in front of the driver, it has got a completely redesigned steering wheel. The new steering wheel is a u-shaped control system with the turn signals, lights, horn, and other core features now controlled by touch buttons on the “wheel.”
The Model X retained its old exterior design but got the new landscape screen seen in the Model S. Both versions to have the U-shaped steering wheel with the back passengers also getting gaming screens. The Model S has three-zone climate control, a 22-speaker audio system, heated seats all around (and ventilated front seats), ambient lighting, and a glass roof as standard.
Tesla Model S and Model X Pricing
The redesigned Tesla auto brands are worth as much as the updated features with the Model S coming in three versions including the Model S, Model S Plaid and Model S Plaid Plus. The Model S comes with two motors and is an all-wheel-drive worth $79,990. The Model S can attain 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and can attain a top speed of 155 mph and a range of 412 miles.
The Plaid version is priced at $119,990, has a top speed of the 200-mph top speed and a 390-mile range. It has 1,020 horsepower and boasts a 2.0-second 0-to-60 time. The Plaid plus is worth $139,990. It has over 1,100 hp and will hit 60 mph in under 2 seconds and according to Tesla, the Plaid Plus can run a top speed of 200 mph and a range of over 520 miles.
The Model X is priced at $89,990 for a Long-Range dual-motor spec that has 360 miles of range, a top speed of 155 mph, and a 0–60 time of 3.8 seconds. While the other brands can be ordered now, the Plaid Plus will not be available for order until later this year.
